Key UK Tax Deadlines Are Approaching

With critical tax dates coming up, now is the time to ensure everything is in order. Whether you are self-employed, have additional income, or are reviewing pension contributions, these deadlines should not be overlooked.

31 January — Self Assessment Deadline
This is the final date to:

Submit your online Self Assessment tax return

Pay any tax due for the previous tax year

Late submissions or payments can trigger automatic penalties and interest, so early preparation is strongly advised.

31 March — Pension and Year-End Contribution Cut-Off
Many pension providers and investment platforms operate a 31 March processing deadline.

To ensure contributions are allocated to the current tax year, funds should be submitted well in advance.

This is particularly important for effective tax planning and maximising reliefs.

5 April — End of the UK Tax Year
As the tax year closes, it is a good opportunity to:

Review ISA, pension, dividend, and savings allowances

Make final adjustments to optimise tax-efficient opportunities before year-end

Need support ahead of these deadlines?

PA Simple Tax can assist with Self Assessment, deadline management and forward-looking tax planning.

📢 UK Budget 2025 — What It Means for You & Your Business

✅ What’s new:

Income tax and National Insurance thresholds are frozen for another three years, more people may be pushed into higher tax bands.

Pension “salary sacrifice” tax perks will be capped at £2,000 from April 2029; contributions above that will face National Insurance, this impacts higher earners especially.

The cash ISA annual allowance will be reduced to £12,000 (from £20,000) from April 2027, savers may face tougher decisions on where to park cash.

To help with living costs, the Budget promises an average £150 reduction on energy bills next year, with bigger savings for low-income households.

At the same time, headline rates of income tax, VAT and National Insurance remain unchanged.

💡 What this means for PA Simple Tax clients:

If you run a small business or freelance, now is a good time to review your payroll, pension contributions and tax planning to avoid unwelcome surprises.

Savers should think carefully about ISA vs other investment options, reduced cash-ISA limits may make other savings vehicles more appealing.

If you use salary-sacrifice pension schemes, it may be the moment to reassess long-term pension strategy, especially if you’re a higher earner.

At PA Simple Tax we’re here to help you navigate these changes, whether you need help with payroll, CIS returns, tax planning or end-of-year accounts.

📣 Important Update for Sole Traders: Personal Use on Business Expenses

At PA Simple Tax, we want to make sure your Self Assessment tax return is accurate and that you stay fully compliant with HMRC.

HMRC is reminding sole traders that when calculating taxable profits, you can only claim expenses that are wholly and exclusively for business use.

Many people use certain items for both business and personal reasons — like:
➡️ Vehicles
➡️ Phones
➡️ Electricity & utilities
➡️ Work-from-home costs

If that’s you, you must adjust your expenses to reflect personal use unless you’re using simplified expenses.

🔍 What This Means for You

If 60% of something is used for business, then only 60% of the cost is allowable.

Example:
🚗 If 60% of your car mileage is business-related → 60% of fuel, insurance, servicing, etc. can be claimed.
If you use simplified expenses (flat rates), you usually don’t need to make a separate adjustment.

📅 What You Need to Check

✔️ 1. Review your 2024–25 expenses.
If any include personal use (and aren’t simplified expenses), make the correct adjustment before filing your return.

📆 Deadline:
• Paper return → 31 Oct 2025
• Online return → 31 Jan 2026

✔️ 2. Already submitted your return?
If you didn’t adjust for personal use, you can amend it up to 12 months after the deadline.

✔️ 3. Think past returns are incorrect?
You may still be able to make a voluntary disclosure.

📢 Important update for company directors and PSCs – New Companies House requirements from 18 November 2025

From 18 November 2025, Companies House is introducing new identity verification requirements for company directors, people with significant control (PSCs), and authorised agents.

Here’s what you need to know:

🔹 Directors
You’ll need to provide your Companies House personal code as part of your company’s next confirmation statement after 18 November 2025.
➡️ If you’re a director of multiple companies, you must do this for each one.
➡️ If you’re registering a new company, the code will be required during registration.

🔹 People with Significant Control (PSCs)
PSCs must verify their identity and provide their personal code — but the timing depends on your situation:

If you’re both a director and a PSC, you’ll need to provide your code for each role.

Directors: in the confirmation statement. PSCs: within 14 days of the confirmation statement date (via a separate Companies House service).

If you’re a PSC only, you must provide your personal code within 14 days of the start of your birth month each year.

If you become a PSC after 18 November 2025, provide your code within 14 days of being added to the register.

🔹 Authorised Corporate Service Providers (ACSPs)
Accountants, solicitors, and company formation agents who file with Companies House will need to verify their identity to become registered authorised agents.
Only registered agents will be able to verify clients and file on their behalf.

🔹Other roles
Identity verification will be introduced later for:

People who file at Companies House
Limited partnerships
Corporate directors
Corporate members of LLPs
Officers of corporate PSCs
