International Day of Charity

Today, on International Day of Charity, we're proud to reflect on the support we've been able to give to a variety of local charities and community organisations over the years.

From fundraising events and charity initiatives to supporting causes close to our hearts, we believe in giving back to the communities where we live and work. Every donation, no matter how big or small, helps make a difference.

A huge thank you to our team, clients, and everyone who has helped us support so many worthwhile local causes. Together, we've helped create a positive impact in our community.

πŸ’™ A Brave Leap for a Wonderful Cause πŸ’™

Please join us in supporting our colleague Denhym, who is taking on a skydive challenge to raise money for Anthony Nolan.

This challenge is deeply personal to Denhym, who is fundraising in memory of her brother, Kai.

Anthony Nolan supported her family during an incredibly difficult time, and through this skydive she hopes to give back, helping ensure other families receive the same vital care and support when they need it most.

We're incredibly proud of Denhym for taking this leap and would love for our community to get behind her.

Every donation, no matter the size, will help make a difference.

Good luck, Denhym, we're all behind you! πŸ’™

Employment Law Changes: Is Your Business Ready?

From October 2026, employers will need to comply with new trade union rules under the Employment Rights Act. Businesses will be required to inform workers of their right to join a trade union and provide this information in writing, regardless of whether the workplace is already unionised.

Employers should review HR policies, employee documentation, and management training to ensure communications cannot be interpreted as discouraging union membership.

Meanwhile, proposed changes to zero-hours contracts could introduce:

βœ… A right to guaranteed hours based on regular working patterns
βœ… Reasonable notice of shifts and schedule changes
βœ… Compensation for shifts cancelled or changed at short notice

While these measures are still subject to consultation, they signal the direction of future employment policy and are worth preparing for now.

Say hello to Gill, our Receptionist, who joined the practice in May 2026. As the friendly face and voice of the firm, Gill helps keep everything running smoothly, from arranging meetings and distributing post to supporting clients and assisting the team with a variety of administrative tasks.

What Gill enjoys most about her role is the variety each day brings and the opportunity to provide valuable support across the practice.

Outside of work, Gill enjoys going to punk gigs, practising yoga, and learning about witchcraft. She has also completed an impressive 47-mile The Lap challenge, which is something many people are surprised to learn!

Gill describes herself as optimistic, caring and calming, and lives by the simple but powerful advice: "Be yourself."

Her proudest achievement? Her children. ❀️

Prepare to be signed up for MTD!

HMRC to Automatically Enrol Some Taxpayers into Making Tax Digital

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax is fast approaching, and HMRC has confirmed that from September 2026, eligible taxpayers who have not yet registered will be automatically enrolled.

If your qualifying income exceeded Β£50,000 in the 2024-25 tax year, and you're required to join MTD for the 2026-27 tax year, HMRC may contact you directly to complete a verification process. Once enrolled, you'll need to maintain digital records and submit updates using MTD-compatible software.

It's important to review any communication from HMRC carefully, especially if your circumstances have changed since 2024-25, as their records may not reflect your current position.

βœ… Not sure if you're affected? Need help choosing software or understanding your new obligations? Our team can guide you through the MTD process, help you stay compliant, and make the transition as smooth as possible.

Get in touch with us today to discuss how MTD could affect you and how we can help you prepare.

Energy prices set to rise!

The UK energy market continues to face challenges, with Ofgem announcing a 4% increase in the energy price cap for the final quarter of 2026.

The rise has been attributed to higher wholesale gas prices, driven largely by ongoing geopolitical tensions and uncertainty in global energy markets.

While the cap applies only to domestic energy customers, the same market pressures are likely to influence commercial energy pricing, potentially increasing costs for businesses when contracts are renewed.

As energy costs remain unpredictable, organisations may want to review their energy procurement strategies, budgets and operational efficiencies to help mitigate future price increases.

⚑ Are rising energy costs continuing to impact your business planning?

From engagement letters and tax correspondence to sharing important financial advice, clear communication helps build trust and strong client relationships.

World Letter Writing Day is a reminder that even in our digital world, taking the time to communicate thoughtfully can make all the difference.

After all, whether it's a letter, email, or phone call, good advice starts with good communication.
