Self Assessment season is already well underway.

HMRC has reported that 298,905 people filed their tax return in the first week of the tax year, with a record 737,891 returns submitted during April 2026.

Filing early can have several advantages:

Receive any refund sooner
Reduce last-minute stress
Plan ahead by knowing what you owe
Allow time to correct mistakes before the deadline

Use your processed return as proof of income for mortgages, loans or benefit claims
With more than 12 million tax returns due by 31 January 2027, there is still plenty of time to get ahead.
