Bookkeeping & Taxation for Charities – Helping Local Organisations Stay Compliant
Charities and social enterprises face increasing challenges when it comes to bookkeeping and tax compliance. To help address these issues, Engage Renfrewshire recently hosted a specialist finance workshop, led by our own Martyn Nicol FCCA, Technical Tax Manager at Accountants Plus.
The purpose of this event was to provide practical support and up-to-date guidance for local organisations, so they can:
Set up and maintain strong, compliant bookkeeping systems
- Track restricted, designated, and unrestricted funds properly
- Choose and configure accounting software like Xero, Sage, and QuickBooks
- Maximise Gift Aid claims and keep up with HMRC requirements
- Navigate the complexities of VAT, trading income, and corporation tax
By sharing these insights, the workshop aimed to help charity managers, trustees, and finance officers build confidence and make informed decisions about their organisation’s finances.
