Your Inheritance Tax Checklist

We’ve reached the final guide in our series.
Today’s guide brings together some of the key points covered throughout the week in a practical Inheritance Tax checklist.
It is designed to help you consider whether you have thought about the important areas — from your Will and assets to potential Inheritance Tax and the practical arrangements your family may need to deal with.
Hopefully, the series has given you some useful things to think about and helped you identify any areas that may be worth reviewing.
If you would like to explore how any of this applies to your own circumstances, we would be very happy to have a conversation with you.
Please remember that these guides are intended as general information only. Tax rules and allowances can change, and the right approach will depend on your individual circumstances.

Practical Steps To Take Control Of Your Estate

Today’s guide moves from the things to consider to some practical steps you can take to make sure your estate is organised.
From reviewing your Will and understanding what you own, to considering who may need to help manage your affairs, small steps taken now can make a significant difference later.
You do not need to tackle everything at once. The aim is simply to help you identify whether there are areas of your estate that you may want to review.
If you would like to talk through any of the points raised, we would be very happy to help.

The 5 Most Common Estate Planning Mistakes

Today’s guide focuses on five common mistakes that can make estate planning less effective — or create unnecessary complications for those dealing with your estate.
Some are simple things that can easily be overlooked, such as keeping your Will up to date or making sure your wishes are understood.
Estate planning is not just about reducing Inheritance Tax. It is also about making sure your wishes are clear and that the right people are able to deal with your affairs when the time comes.
If anything in today’s guide makes you think your own arrangements may need reviewing, we would be happy to have a conversation.

What Happens To Your Estate On Death?

Today’s guide looks at what happens to your estate when you die — from identifying your assets and liabilities through to the role of your Will, executors and probate.
There can be a lot to deal with at what is already a difficult time, and understanding the process in advance can make things much easier for those left behind.

As with all the guides in this series, it is intended to highlight some of the key considerations rather than provide advice specific to your circumstances.
If you have any questions after reading it, or would like to discuss how the points raised may apply to your own situation, we would be very happy to have a conversation.

Every day this week, we’ll be sharing a short guide covering some of the key things to think about when it comes to Inheritance Tax, and the practical side of managing an estate.

Each guide is designed to be quick and easy to read, simply highlighting areas that are often overlooked and helping you reflect on your own situation at your own pace.

Today’s guide explores why more families are being affected by Inheritance Tax and highlights some of the things that are easy to overlook when considering the value of your estate.

If you would like to explore how any of this might apply to you personally, we would be very happy to have a conversation.

A quick note:

These guides are intended to provide general information only. Rules around tax and planning can change over time, and everyone’s circumstances are different, so it’s always worth seeking advice tailored to your own situation before making any decisions.

The value of investments can go down as well as up, and you may get back less than you invest. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change in the future.

Supporting our local community is something we’re incredibly proud of.

We were delighted to donate towards new books for Hawarden Village Church School.

Members of our HCI team regularly volunteer at the school, spending time with pupils to help build their confidence and develop their reading skills. Seeing the positive impact this has on the children inspired us to contribute towards new books, giving them even more opportunities to discover the joy of reading.

At HCI, we’re passionate about supporting the communities we’re part of, and we’re proud to play a small role in helping local children develop a lifelong love of reading 💙
