Businesses are being warned to watch out for fake payment requests.

Companies House and the IPO have reported that some organisations are sending invoices for services such as account verification, trade mark renewals and online registrations.

The fees are often inflated and the services may already be available directly from official sources.

If you receive a request for payment and aren't sure whether it's genuine, take a moment to check before paying.

After completing several marathons, an ankle injury might have been the perfect excuse for Rachel to put her feet up...

But that's not really Rachel's style!

While recovering, our Accounts & Audit Manager signed up to the Macmillan Cancer Support Swim It Challenge and set herself the goal of swimming the equivalent of the English Channel – 21 miles.

The challenge was designed to be completed across June and July, but Rachel decided to finish it all in June instead!

In her words, she now has arms like popeye having swam 21 miles over 14 sessions and clocking up 12.5 hours of swimming.

We're incredibly proud of her achievement and the money she's raising for Macmillan Cancer Support.

A temporary Summer VAT reduction has landed!

The government has announced a temporary reduction in VAT from 20% to 5% on qualifying children's meals and family attractions between 25 June and 1 September 2026.

The changes could benefit both families and businesses this summer, but there are specific rules around which activities qualify and how the reduced rate should be applied.

HMRC has announced updated business mileage rates for the 2026/27 tax year.

The changes have been backdated to 6 April 2026 and include:

🔵55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles
🔵25p per mile after that

Employers may wish to review employee mileage reimbursements and payroll records following the update.

Self-employed individuals will also be able to use the new rates in their tax returns.
