Callum's on a roll!

Having already passed the first two exams of his Level 7 apprenticeship (Assurance & Risk Fundamentals (Certificate level) and Tax Compliance & Planning (Professional level), he has now passed his Assurance, Risk and Reporting exam.

But there's no rest for the (not so) wicked - he's already studying hard for his next exam, Corporate Reporting, which he will be sitting in early September.

Come and join us for refreshments, including prosecco and cake and live entertainment from Alex Hart from 3.30pm.

We love attending our local agricultural shows, it's great to be part of such a vibrant community and we can't wait to welcome clients, business associates, friends and colleagues onto our stand.

Let's hope the sun is shining but it's not too hot!

We are sooooooo proud of our very own Tammy Brown, who recently completed the Alzheimer's Society's Trek26 Peak District Challenge.

This was a 26-mile trek through the Peak District, which Tammy did by herself, AND she also had to contend with 28 degrees of heat!

That said, she completed the 26-mile challenge in an impressive 11 hours straight, stopping only for 48 minutes throughout the whole day.

Tammy said, "The walk was incredibly hard, with a lot of elevation. We saw sights such as Chatsworth House, Froggatt Edge, Curbar Edge and the Monsal Trail. I did have a lot of tears throughout, nearly giving up on some occasions, but I kept going, and I'm so pleased that I did. The Alzheimer’s Society is such a brilliant charity, so I had to keep going to raise as much money as possible for them."

Company directors - if you haven't yet completed your ID verification, please be aware that you have to be 100% consistent with spellings and the information provided.

Companies House won't accept your ID or future filings if they are different. Key areas to consider are:

🟢Spellings of names and addresses.
🟢Using middle names or shortening names, e.g. Jonathan to Jon.
🟢Formatting of names, e.g. ABC & Co, vs A.B.C & Co.

If you're a client of UHY Peninsula, once you have successfully submitted your Companies House ID, please forward a copy to us so we can be consistent when filing your accounts and other documents.

Inconsistencies could lead to documents being submitted late, and you may incur penalties.

Lilia Subkhankulova is continuing to add to her successful exam tally, having recently passed her Business Tax exam with an impressive score of 80%.

This is Lilia’s second exam which forms part of her Association of Accounting Technicians’ Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician qualification.

Lilia's next exam, which isn't until November, will be Drafting and Interpreting Accounting Statements, a topic she has already started preparing for because it is “a big one”!!

We’d also like to give a big shout-out to Accountancy Learning, with whom Lilia and several of our trainee accountants are training, as part of their accounting apprenticeships.

Carolyn Wright, our Launceston-based bookkeeper, and her husband, Chris, recently took part in the very first Heli Hike for the Cornwall Air Ambulance.

They, along with 250 other people, walked along the Cornish Coast around Bude. The sunny day showcased the stunning coastline around Bude and also provided a perfect backdrop for the hikers to share their stories of being rescued by the air ambulance over the years.

In total, more than £23,000 was raised on the day of the Heli Hike.

Let's bust some myths in terms of Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax!

1) MTD MEANS PAYING TAX MORE OFTEN
Wrong! - You’ll still pay tax in January and July, but you’ll now send HMRC more frequent income and expense updates.

2) YOU MUST USE EXPENSIVE MTD COMPATIBLE SOFTWARE
Wrong! There are various software options, including free or low-cost solutions, that are MTD compliant.

3) MTD IS ONLY FOR VAT
Wrong! While MTD began with VAT, it is being extended to Income Tax and will include more taxpayers in the coming years.

4) SPREADSHEETS ARE BANNED
Wrong! You can continue to use spreadsheets, provided they are linked to MTD compatible software for submissions.

5) ALL TAXPAYERS ARE AFFECTED IMMEDIATELY
Wrong! MTD for Income Tax is being rolled out in stages, so not everyone will be impacted right away.
