For Christo Wrey, one of our trainee accountants, the desire to travel has always been strong.

Sadly for us ☹ Christo is going to fulfil his desire by taking a year out to go around the world. During his travels, he is going to Canada and Sri Lanka, then plans to travel across South America, taking in the wonders of Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia and the Galapagos Islands.

It sounds like an amazing experience; we wish we could go with him!

Christo’s last day in the office is on 16 October. We wish him all the best in his latest adventure.

In preparation for his travels, Christo has been taking part in Ironman competitions. Here he is finishing the Ironman 70.3 in Versailles last weekend - hopefully his next travels won't be as gruelling.

How exciting! One of our clients is now an international movie star!

Derek Banbury from Frankaborough Farm near Broadwoodwidger, near Lifton, is one of the main stars in the new documentary film Derek vs Derek. The film follows Derek and his neighbour, Derek Gow, who have very different views on how the countryside should be managed.

Derek B and his family run a traditional 400 acre intensive beef and dairy farm, with Linda, his wife, running a very successful holiday cottage business from the farm, Frankaborough Farm Cottages and Bed and Breakfast. Derek aims to produce food to keep the population's bellies full.

Derek G is a former sheep farmer turned conservationist and rewilder. His aim is to save nature and turn his 300 acre farm into a nature reserve, reintroducing species such as beavers, storks and wild boar.

The film captures the day to day turbulent relationship between Derek B’s intensive farming approach to land management and Derek G’s large scale conservation and rewilding project.

The film is currently showing in venues across the country and is attracting overseas attention, with cinemas in Austria and Norway showing it. Derek and Linda have recently returned from the Norway screening.

You can watch the film at Okehampton Cinema on 15 and 21 October and in Launceston Town Hall on 6 November.

Bluetongue - how we're helping farmers plan for the financial impact.

Bluetongue has been devastating for many of our farming clients.

The effects could continue well into next year. Alongside the costs of caring for infected animals and the loss of livestock, fertility issues in affected stock may disrupt future breeding programmes.

We have a champion amongst us!

Diane Barr, who is PA to the Partners, has recently been crowned 'Cornwall Mixed Pairs Bowling Champion'. This is an incredible achievement, especially since she has only played bowls for 3 years.

Diane and her bowls partner, Nick Trewin, play for Kensey Vale Bowling Club in Launceston. Nick stepped in as reserve for the quarter-finals, semi-final and final as Diane's other bowls partner was unfortunately taken ill.

Here is Di, with her bowling partner, Nick Trewin, receiving their trophy from the President of Cornwall Bowls, Helen Pollard.

The Kensey Vale Bowling Club are always looking for new players if you, or someone you know, would like to start playing bowls.
