Firecracker Heatwave: Pacific Northwest 🔥🇨🇦

“Record temperatures were recorded across the region with Seattle, Washington recording temperatures of 41.7ºC and Portland, Oregon reached 44.4ºC on June 28th whilst Lytton, British Colombia hit 49.6ºC on June 29th (breaking an 83-year-old record). These records were broken by 5ºC in some areas; normally when records are broken, these happen at a fraction of a degree, thus the extent of the increase is noteworthy to say the least.”

Last week we saw Canada reach almost 50 degrees centigrade 🥵

Yet another example of an extreme climate event that has led to deaths and intense wildfires.

We’re experiencing more and more extreme weather events that have life threatening and huge economic impacts.

And what’s crazy, is that this is well before we’ve hit the “1.5 C” rise in average temperatures. Just imagine how whack our climate will be at that point.

Positively Hot — NEW BLOG ALERT

has produced another wonderful blog for us, examining the factors that caused some of the most brutal wildfires on record 😰.

“Starting in New South Wales in September 2019, the fires burnt approximately 14.7 million acres (twice the size of Belgium) into early 2020. The smoke from the fires persisted in the atmosphere for nearly 4 months and travelled 66,000 km around the globe.”

What does it take for a company to be carbon neutral?

To be carbon neutral, a company needs two things:

1. A greenhouse gas report written in accordance with ISO14064-1, quantifying all greenhouse gas emissions, either made publicly available or have had third party validated.

2. Carbon credit retirement certification equal to or greater than the carbon footprint of the organisation as detailed within the greenhouse gas report. [Ideally high quality carbon credits are used, but this is a story for another time.]

If a company is claiming to be carbon neutral, but they’re not showing evidence, challenge them. is an unfortunate ongoing trend at the moment. As it is not policed by a governing body, it’s on the public to challenge big, bold, unsupported claims.
