Not quite.

✔️Reality: Accountants rely on accurate bookkeeping to work from.

❌ Myth: Bookkeepers just enter data.
✔️ Reality: Good bookkeeping provides the financial clarity a business needs to stay healthy.

❌ Myth: Small businesses don’t need a bookkeeper.
✔️ Reality: The earlier your records are organised, the easier and more efficient tax time becomes.

Without clean books, your accountant’s job becomes harder and often more expensive.

MTD - Making Tax Digital for Income Tax is nearly here ⏱️

⚪️ If your qualifying Gross income - (income before you deduct expenses) is £50,000 or more for the tax year 24/25 then you need to think about getting ready to start reporting through HMRC approved software from April 2026.

⚪️ Qualifying Income includes your self-employment income and UK and foreign property Income.

⚪️ It is the biggest change for reporting Income tax to HMRC in over 30 years. The thought can seem daunting, but I believe the positives will outweigh the negatives by giving you a clearer picture of your business finances in real time. You will thrive on being financially organised throughout the year rather than the normal scramble of digging out receipts and invoices for January the 31st every year.

⏰🔔Making Tax digital for income tax (MTD for IT) is coming, are you ready? 🔔⏰

Self assessment tax returns are changing for many sole traders and landlords.

It will be mandatory from April 6th 2026 if you meet the below criteria. You must maintain digital accounting records in a commercial software product and submit in-year quarterly returns as well as your final normal return after the end of the tax year.

📅 From April 6, 2026:

▪️Affects self-employed individuals and landlords

▪️Applies if your annual income exceeds £50,000

▪️ Based on your 2024/2025 tax year income

▪️ Mandatory digital record keeping and quarterly updates begin

📅 From April 6, 2027:

▪️ Extended to those with annual income over £30,000

▪️ Based on your 2025/2026 tax year income

▪️ Includes combined self employment/property income
