There’s nothing wrong with wanting to grow your business.

But there’s also nothing wrong with deciding that what you have is enough for you.

Would you feel judged if you admitted you didn’t actually want — or need — your business to get any bigger?

My favourite clients don't have all the answers.

But they do know the answer to the most important question.

They know where they want to go.

They have ambitions.

They have ideas.

They have goals for their business.

What they don't always have is a clear plan of how they will get there.

That's where I love working alongside them.

Not to tell them what their dream should be.

But to help them build a plan to achieve it.

For me, accounting has never just been about tax returns or year-end accounts.

It's about understanding the person behind the business.

Their ambitions.

Their challenges.

Their version of success.

Because when we understand where a client wants to go, we can help them make better financial decisions along the way.

Watching someone achieve something they've worked incredibly hard for...
..and knowing we've been part of that journey.

That's what makes this job so rewarding.

How much do you rely on gut instinct when it comes to business?

Many business owners rely heavily on their instinct, based on experience, knowledge and that feeling or voice that keeps telling you that this is the right way to go.

Many business owners are very successful because of it!

But as an accountant, I am going to suggest that, however good your instinct is, before you rely on it completely, take the time to back up those feelings with facts.

I’ll always listen to what a business owner’s gut is telling them.

Then we ask:

What are the numbers telling us?

Your instinct might be telling you it’s time to grow, hire, increase prices, invest, or take the business in a new direction.

The numbers can help you understand whether now is the right time, what the risks are and what that decision could actually mean for the business.

For me, the best decisions aren’t made by choosing between instinct and numbers.

They’re made by using both.

A little update as so many people have asked!

Our little Blade is not so little any more!

The garden may not have survived the sunshine but it appears to have worked wonders on the puppy!

Not so little but (and I am not biased at all!) definitely just as handsome!

You are an expert in your business, you dont need to be an accountant as well.

What you do need is to understand your numbers and be able to use them to make the best possible decisions for your business

I am sure you can do anything, but you dont need to do everything

While you are busy building a business that supports your life.

Do you ever find that it is sometimes the reason you stop living it.

It's easy to spend every waking hour trying to grow your business.

But what's the point of building something successful if you never have time to enjoy it?

Sometimes the best business decisions aren't about increasing turnover.

They're about creating more freedom and remembering what is really important to you, and your family.

Is your goal to build your perfect business... or grow a business that helps you build a perfect life?

A thought while the coffee was brewing...

One good decision can save months of hard work.

One bad decision can take months to put right.

That's why the best decisions are rarely rushed.

Plan ahead,

know your goals
Make decisions about what's happening in your future so that you dont have to make them about what is happening today

Working from home?

You could be paying more tax than you need to.

One of the most common conversations we have with business owners is about working from home expenses.

Many people either:

Don't claim everything they're entitled to because they don't know what's available.

Or don't claim anything at all because they're worried about getting it wrong.

Both can end up costing you money.

The reality is that there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer.

What you can claim depends on:

✔️ Whether you're self-employed or run a limited company.

✔️ How you use your home for business.

✔️ Your individual circumstances.

That's why it's so important not to rely on advice you've seen on social media or heard from another business owner.

What works for one person may not be right for another.

The goal isn't to claim more.

It's to claim the right things, in the right way, with confidence.

Sometimes it's not about finding clever tax-saving strategies.

It's simply about making sure you're not missing what's already available to you.

Are you confident you're claiming everything you're entitled to?
