Still charging the same prices you were years ago? 👀

We see this all the time.

Your costs increase. Your experience grows. Your skills improve. Your demand increases.

But your prices?

Exactly the same.

And this is where looking at your numbers matters.

Because putting your prices up shouldn’t just be about picking a number that feels right.

You need to know what it actually costs you to run your business, what profit you’re making, and whether your prices are giving you enough room to cover your tax and still pay yourself properly.

That’s why at The Pet Accountant, we don’t just look at your turnover and tell you how much tax you owe.

We want you to understand what your numbers are actually telling you.

Because being busy, fully booked and constantly working doesn’t mean your prices are right.

Your business needs to make money. 🐾

Save this for the next time you talk yourself out of a price increase - and send it to the pet professional who needs the nudge. 👀

Think you need to be the cheapest in your area?

No.

📍 Your postcode doesn’t set your prices.
📍 What the business down the road charges doesn’t set your prices.
📍 Local Facebook group opinions don’t set your prices.

Your prices should be based on your costs, your experience, your expertise, your time and the profit your business needs to make.

Too many pet professionals undercharge because they’re worried about what everyone else is charging.

✨ But an area does not dictate price.

The value you provide, the service you deliver and the sustainability of your business matter far more than your location.

Stop competing on price. Start charging with confidence. 🐾

💭 Your business has changed. Have your prices changed with it?

In this episode of the Pet Accountant Podcast, Vicky continues her P.R.I.C.E Framework series by focusing on the second stage: R - Review.

Your prices shouldn't be something you set when you start your pet business and then forget about. Your costs change, your experience grows, your service improves and the time involved in delivering that service can change too.

So why would your prices stay the same?

In this episode, Vicky discusses:
🐾 Why your pricing should evolve alongside your business
🐾 How to calculate the true time involved in delivering your services
🐾 Reviewing your increasing costs and overheads
🐾 Understanding your profit margins rather than simply looking at revenue
🐾 How improvements in your service can increase its value
🐾 Why your market positioning should influence what you charge
🐾 The importance of attracting clients who value what you offer

Because a pricing review doesn't automatically mean putting your prices up - it's about understanding what your service genuinely costs to deliver, the value you're providing and whether your current prices still make financial sense.

Dog walkers - are you claiming everything you might be able to? 👀🐾

When you think about the costs of running a dog walking business, it’s easy to focus on the obvious things like leads and treats.

But there’s also travel, insurance, software, marketing, home working, professional fees and all the little costs that add up over the year.

And if you’re driving between clients all day, don’t overlook your business mileage and travel costs.

The important bit: not every expense is automatically allowable, and where something has both personal and business use, the rules can be different.

Save this for your next bookkeeping session and send it to another dog walker who needs to see it. 🐕

This is general guidance and not individual tax advice. If you’re unsure whether something is allowable for your specific circumstances, speak to your accountant.
