📣 £2,000 boost for small businesses taking on young apprentices

Some good news for small businesses looking to grow their team 👏

From 1 October 2026, non-levy paying employers can receive a £2,000 payment when they take on a new apprentice aged 16–24.

And there’s more support available too:

✅ £2,000 hiring payment for eligible new apprentices aged 16–24
✅ 100% of apprenticeship training costs funded for eligible apprentices under 25
✅ No employer’s National Insurance for apprentices under 25 on eligible earnings
✅ Other payments may also be available depending on the apprentice’s age and circumstances

Even better — employers don’t need to apply for the £2,000 payment. Eligibility is identified when the apprentice starts their training and the payment is passed to the employer through their training provider.

The £2,000 is paid in two instalments:
💷 £1,000 after 90 days
💷 £1,000 after one year (or earlier for some shorter apprenticeships)

So, if you’ve been considering taking on an apprentice, now might be a very good time to revisit the numbers.

Liam, Senior Manager and Head of Outsourcing, has been with Astar for more than a decade and has spearheaded the growth of our outsourcing services.

Katy, Business Services Manager, brings experience from both practice and industry, heads our bookkeeping services and manages her own portfolio of payroll clients.

And they’re backed up by Fiona, working across bookkeeping, personal tax and MTD ITSA preparation, and Sophie, making sure the i’s are dotted and the t’s are crossed behind the scenes.

But ultimately, our CVs aren’t what matter. What we do with that experience for our clients does.
