Are you aware that under new HMRC rules you must now submit a Claim Notification before making an R&D claim if you have either not claimed within the past 3 years, or your claim was for a period beginning before 1 April 2023?

The notification must be submitted within 6 months of your year end. For example, if your year end is March 2025, the notification deadline will be 30 September 2025. If you miss this deadline then (unless an exemption applies) your claim for that period will be permanently lost.

1. The upcoming merger of the SME and RDEC schemes.
2. New restrictions on overseas R&D projects and R&D that's performed to fulfill the terms of a commercial contract.
3. A parallel scheme for loss-making 'R&D intensive' companies.

Last week's autumn budget ushered in some significant changes to the R&D scheme. The changes will reduce the benefit for all companies that are claiming through the SME scheme, to varying degrees and will also favour larger companies that are claiming through the RDEC scheme. The Innovation Plus team were deeply sad to learn about the passing of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

She was an iconic figure who was responsible for many charitable acts throughout her life and acted as a unifying force during turbulent times. We would like to thank her for her service and dedication. She will be missed and never forgotten.

We also offer our sincere condolences to the Royal Family, as they cope with the personal loss of a much beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
