THE MOTIVATION TRAP
The belief that leaders need more motivation is one of the most damaging ideas in business.
A client once told me he felt stuck because he had “lost motivation.”
He kept waiting for inspiration to return.
He watched videos. He read books.
He tried to hype himself up.
Nothing changed.
What changed everything was realising he didn’t have a motivation problem. He had a clarity problem.
The moment he defined who he was becoming and the standard he wanted to embody, his energy returned instantly.
Not because motivation magically appeared. Because clarity removed friction.
People don’t burn out from lack of motivation.
They burn out from lack of identity clarity.
The uncomfortable truth is that motivation is unreliable. Identity is not.
What clarity about who you are becoming would remove the friction in your performance?
