Good News for Farmers & Family Business Owners

The Government has announced a positive and important change to the planned reforms of Agricultural Property Relief (APR) and Business Property Relief (BPR), effective from 6 April 2026.

💡 The proposed cap on 100% relief has been increased from £1 million to £2.5 million following consultation with the farming community and family businesses.

What this means for you:
✔️ Individuals can now benefit from up to £2.5 million of assets qualifying for 100% APR or BPR
✔️ Couples can pass on up to £5 million of qualifying assets between them, in addition to existing allowances
✔️ Trust allowances have also increased to £2.5 million, supporting long-term family planning
✔️ Greater certainty and protection for farms and owner-managed businesses

This announcement provides welcome reassurance for families planning the future of their farms or businesses, while reinforcing the importance of early and well-structured succession planning.
