Moving house doesn't always mean losing your mortgage deal. 🏠
Many people assume that when they move, they have to start a fresh mortgage from scratch.
But a lot of mortgages are "portable", which means you can take your existing deal with you to the new property. 💷
So, if you're locked into a good rate already, porting could save you from moving onto something more expensive.
It can also help you avoid repayment charges for leaving your current deal early. 👀
It's not automatic, though.
You still have to reapply and meet the lender's criteria on the new property, and if you're borrowing more, the extra usually comes at current rates. 📈
Porting can be complicated, especially with timing between selling and buying, so it's worth understanding your options before you commit to a move. 🏡
