500+ clients. 20+ industries. 95% long-term retention.

We’re proud of these numbers — not simply because they show how CIGMA has grown, but because of what sits behind them.

Businesses and individuals come to us with different challenges, ambitions and financial needs. Our role is to understand that context, provide reliable support, and build relationships that continue beyond the next deadline or set of accounts.

For us, 95% long-term client retention is especially meaningful. It reflects the kind of partnerships we want to build: responsive, proactive and focused on where our clients are going next.

We’re pleased to share that CIGMA has been featured in AccountingWEB, in partnership with Zoho Books, sharing our experience from the first MTD for Income Tax quarterly update.

Having now been through the first quarterly update with our clients, one thing became particularly clear: the challenge isn’t simply meeting a new filing requirement. It’s helping businesses adjust to a more continuous way of managing their financial records.

That means keeping digital records up to date throughout the quarter, building workflows that work in practice, and identifying issues early — rather than waiting until a deadline is approaching.

In the feature, our Founder and CEO, Aitch Sheikh, shares some of what we learned from that first quarter, including the importance of client readiness, clear communication and getting the right systems in place.

For us, that practical experience matters. MTD is changing how businesses and accountants work together, and each quarter gives us an opportunity to make the process clearer, more efficient and easier for our clients to manage.

As MTD continues to roll out to more businesses, we’ll be carrying those lessons forward.

“My books are a mess. Where do I even start?”

It’s a question many business owners are hesitant to ask — but messy books are more common than you might think.

The first step isn’t fixing everything at once. It’s understanding what’s missing, deciding what needs attention first, and working through it systematically.

With the right systems and professional oversight, bookkeeping can become much easier to manage — and much easier to stay on top of going forward.

Swipe through to see where we’d start.

Salary or dividends — how should you pay yourself as a limited company director?

There isn’t one answer that works for everyone.

Salary is paid through payroll and may involve PAYE, Income Tax and National Insurance. Dividends work differently: they can only be paid from available company profits and are taxed differently from salary.

For many directors, the right approach may be a combination of both — but the best mix depends on your company profits, other income, personal circumstances and the current tax rules.

The important thing is not simply choosing the option that appears to have the lowest tax rate. It’s understanding how the different pieces work together for you and your business.

Swipe through for a clearer look at the difference between salary and dividends.

Profitable on paper, but still wondering where the cash has gone?

You’re not alone. Profit and cash flow tell you different things — and a healthy profit figure doesn’t always mean there’s enough cash available when wages, suppliers or other bills are due.

Understanding what’s coming in, what’s going out and when gives you a much clearer picture of your business — and more time to act before cash gets tight.

Swipe through for a few common reasons why profit doesn’t always mean cash in the bank, and what you can do about it.

What could your business do with faster, clearer financial information?

A 12-person design and development studio in Shoreditch was spending three weeks completing its quarter-end close.

After moving to CIGMA’s automated workflows, that process was reduced to just 4 days.

The directors also gained a live cash-runway dashboard — giving them clearer visibility for contractor planning and smoother investor updates.

Because good accounting shouldn’t slow a growing business down. It should help it move faster.
