Financial Markets Indaba - Capital Markets - High Schools Quiz Competition

The Virtual Trading Competition remains one of the flagship components of the Quiz Competition, providing students with an immersive introduction to the world of investing.

Forty secondary and high schools from across Zimbabwe will participate in the simulation, which is delivered in partnership with the Financial Securities Exchange (FINSEC) using the C-Trade platform. The programme enables learners to experience the workings of capital markets in a realistic, risk-free environment while reinforcing the concepts covered throughout the competition.

During last year’s competition, participants delivered outstanding performances, with Harare High School emerging as the standout school after growing its virtual portfolio from an initial ZW$1 million to more than ZW$14 million within a month through effective investment decisions and portfolio management.

By analysing market trends, constructing portfolios, and managing investment risk, students gain practical experience that complements classroom learning while developing analytical thinking, financial literacy, strategic decision-making, and digital skills. As technology, data analytics, and artificial intelligence continue to transform global financial markets, the competition equips young people with the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate modern capital markets and seize future opportunities in finance, business, and the broader digital economy.

The fourth edition of the Zimbabwe Diaspora Business Forum marked another important milestone in strengthening the role of Zimbabweans abroad as active contributors to the country’s economic transformation.

Convened by Financial Markets Indaba in partnership with the Zimbabwe Embassy in the United Kingdom, the Forum demonstrated the growing shift from dialogue to implementation, with diaspora professionals increasingly engaging in investment, knowledge transfer, business partnerships and strategic initiatives that support national development. The continued expansion of the platform reflects a shared recognition that the diaspora represents a valuable source of expertise, innovation and long-term capital capable of complementing Zimbabwe’s economic growth agenda.

A defining feature of this edition was the strengthening of practical synergies between the diaspora, Government and the private sector. Through focused engagement with senior leadership from ZESA Holdings, CBZ Holdings Limited, CEO Africa Roundtable and Seeff Zimbabwe, participants explored opportunities for collaboration across infrastructure, energy, property development, financial services and broader investment initiatives. These engagements reinforced the importance of structured partnerships that leverage the global experience, professional capabilities and international networks of Zimbabweans abroad while aligning with the country’s strategic development priorities.

The Forum continues to mature into a permanent engagement mechanism that promotes sustained collaboration rather than one-off interactions. By creating clear channels for dialogue, partnership development and investment facilitation, the initiative is fostering stronger connections between diaspora professionals and institutions at home, resulting in greater participation in Zimbabwe’s economy. As the Diaspora Professional Sector Clusters continue to expand, the Forum is laying the foundation for a collaborative ecosystem where government, business and the diaspora work together to mobilise expertise, attract investment and accelerate inclusive economic growth.
