Why did I build Prosperity Life Planning the way I did? 💛

I spent the first 10 years of my career working for Irish Life Assurance and Barclays Financial Management.

I learnt so much during those years, but there was something I felt was missing.

We spent a lot of time talking about pensions, investments and financial products, but not enough time understanding what people actually wanted from their lives.

And that always bothered me.

When I went independent over 20 years ago, I wanted to do things differently.

Over the years, that led me to train as a Registered Life Planner and Certified Money Coach, which completely changed the way I have conversations with clients.

Because before we start talking about the money, I want to understand the person.

What matters to them? What do they want their life to look like? And what’s stopping them from getting there?

Hosting my second Summer Soirée this year was a lovely reminder of why I do what I do.

Listening to my clients share their own stories about retiring with confidence, spending more time with family and finally feeling able to enjoy what they’ve worked so hard for was incredibly special. 🥰

They weren’t talking about investment returns.

They were talking about what having that financial confidence had allowed them to do with their lives.

And that’s what it’s always been about for me.

After more than 30 years in financial planning, I still believe the most important question isn’t just how much money you have.

It’s what you want that money to make possible for you. 💛

“I know I need to sort my finances out, I just don’t know where to start.”

I hear this a lot.

You might have pensions in different places, savings and investments you’ve built up over the years, perhaps some decisions you know you need to make.

But you’ve never really stopped and looked at everything together.

So start there.

What do you have?
What’s working well?
What needs some attention?

And most importantly, what do you actually want your money to help you do?

That’s why I created my Prosper Guide. 💛

It takes you through seven simple areas to help you look at where you are now and start thinking about what needs your attention next.

You don’t need to have all the answers.

Sometimes you just need somewhere to start.

I’m not quite sure how to put the last five days into words. This week has just been amazing 🌟

I’ve watched a group of Financial Planners arrive with open minds and completely give themselves to this experience.

It’s been an emotional rollercoaster 🎢 with so much honesty, vulnerability, courage, laughter, connection and personal growth.

And I feel incredibly proud of every one of them 💛

But this week has also given me something I wasn’t expecting…

12 years ago, when I first discovered Life Planning, I remember thinking about the difference I wanted to make in people’s lives.

I think somewhere along the way, I imagined that feeling of really making a difference would come much later. Maybe after another 10 or 20 years of doing this work.

This week made me realise I don’t have to wait.

I’ve been able to support these wonderful people as they’ve experienced Life Planning for themselves and learnt how they can take it back into the lives of their own clients.

And I got to witness what happened.

The breakthroughs. The possibilities. The confidence. The real connection.

That’s pretty special. ✨

For me, this has been a real Aloha moment.

A moment of feeling deeply grateful for where this journey has brought me, for the people I’ve been able to help along the way, and knowing there is still so much more to come.

I still have a good number of working years ahead of me. So perhaps legacy isn’t something we leave behind one day…

Perhaps it’s something we create while we’re here. ❤️

It’s been a brilliant week and I feel incredibly privileged to have been part of it.

Day 5 in Cornwall 💛

What a couple of days!

Yesterday was all about vision and helping the Financial Planners here learn how to go deeper in conversations with their clients.

Not just, “What do you want?”

But why does that matter to you?
Why is it so important?
What would it actually feel like if that was your life?

I’ve done this work for years now, but watching everyone here fully immerse themselves in it has reminded me of something.

You have to be prepared to sit in the seat you’re eventually going to ask your clients to sit in.

To experience the questions yourself.

To think about your own life.

To be open and sometimes vulnerable.

Because learning the process is one thing.

Actually feeling what it can do is completely different.

And last night took that to another level.

Kathy led us through a brilliant workshop around presence and expressing ourselves, and everyone eventually stood up and performed a monologue based on a real story from their own life.

I . was. blown. away!

The stories, the talent, the vulnerability and the trust in that room. ❤️

There were definitely a few moments where I just sat there thinking, wow.

And then today we moved onto the O in EVOKE, Obstacles.

Because when you’ve created a vision that shines so brightly and feels so important to you, the next question is…

What could possibly get in the way?

And that’s where another level of conversation begins.

Another incredible day.

I think I’m going to need a bit time to process this week! 💛

Wow what a day. 💙
Today was all about Exploration.

Listening. Being curious. Creating space. And allowing someone to be truly heard.

There was so much in the room today strength, vulnerability, energy, possibility, confidence, trust and connection 💛

Sometimes the most incredible thing we can do is not rush to find the answer.

Just listen.
Notice.
Stay curious.
And give someone the space to explore what’s going on for them.

Finished the day with a walk along the Cornish coast and a little time to reflect on it all Nigel Barker-Smith/Morley, Leeds Alex Alderson George Kinder Kinder Institute

The work has begun 💛
I’m in Cornwall for the next 5 days supporting the Kinder Institute of Life Planning EVOKE training.

Life Planning has become such a big part of how I work with my own clients that it no longer feels like something I add to financial planning.

It’s simply how I work with people.

And this week I get to support other Financial Planners as they learn how to have deeper conversations with their clients, understand what really matters to them and bring more of that into their financial planning work.

I’ve seen the difference these conversations can make with my own clients.

So I love the idea that by helping more Financial Planners work this way, the impact can go far beyond the people in the room. 💛 and personally, a chance to learn, contribute to the profession and grow too.

Really looking forward to the week ahead with George D. Kinder Kathy, Nigel Barker-Smith Alex Alderson and everyone taking part. 🥰

And what a beautiful place to spend the week! 🌊💛

Saturday Round Up 💛

I didn’t manage a Friday Round Up yesterday. I was absolutely shattered! 😅

It’s been one of those weeks, no one big thing, just lots going on.

I started with Andy Hart’s - Financial Adviser HUM Coaches’ Corner, talking about retirement, identity and the changes people go through as they move into the next stage of life.

I’ve had client meetings, a great exploration with a new client and a couple of client check ins.

I really value those check ins. Life doesn’t stay the same between meetings and sometimes clients just need space to talk about what’s changed, something that’s been on their mind, or simply some reassurance that they’re still on track. 💛

I also went along to the uniquely wired network event, hosted by which gave me lots to think about around neurodiversity and how differently we all communicate and process things.

And I’ve leaned on my team more this week too. I’m definitely getting better at asking for help and delegating rather than feeling I have to carry everything myself! 🙌

There seems to be a bit of a theme…

People change. Life changes. Sometimes we just need some space to talk about it.

And now I’m giving myself some too.

Last night was spent decorating and wrapping presents because my girl is 17 today! 🥰❤️

I remembered this little video from the eve of her 5th birthday and it still makes me smile 😍❤️

Where did those years go?! 🥹

Tomorrow we drop my son back to uni, and it would also have been my granny’s 104th birthday. She’s been on my mind a lot recently. 💕

This week has all the feels.

But today is all about my girl.
Happy 17th birthday Layla 💕🎂

Great to be back at BWN Moorgate this morning 😊

Lots of good conversations, catching up and talking about how we can support each other as we head into the next quarter.

I also got everyone thinking about a question I often ask my clients:

What do you actually want your money to do for you?

Travel more? Work less? Help your family? Make a change? Or simply know you’re going to be okay?

These conversations become even more important when life is changing.

So I’m opening up a few Life Change Financial Consultation calls. If you’re going through a change, retirement, redundancy, divorce, bereavement, selling a business, receiving an inheritance, or simply wondering what comes next, come and have a chat with me.

We can talk through what’s happening, what’s worrying you and what you might need to think about financially.

Message me if you’d like to have a chat 💬

Now for something completely different, I’m on my way to Uniquely Wired, hosted by 🥰

Do you ever have that nagging feeling that you should have a better understanding of your pensions and investments than you do?

Perhaps you’ve changed jobs over the years, built up several pension pots, and you’re hoping everything is working together as it should.

Or maybe you’ve reached a point where you’re beginning to ask bigger questions.

Could I retire earlier than I thought?

Can I afford to work less?

What is all of this actually going to give me?

That’s exactly what my Power Session is designed for.

✨ Two focused hours.
✨ We bring everything together.
✨ We look at what you have, how it’s working, and, most importantly, what it means for your future.

One couple I worked with came to me approaching retirement.

Between them they had six pension plans with different providers and no clear picture of how it all fitted together.

By the end of our work together they understood exactly what they had, what income it could provide and, with that clarity, one of them realised they could retire sooner than they’d imagined.

Another client had spent years building wealth through a successful career.

She wasn’t worried about whether her pensions existed, she simply didn’t know what they could actually make possible.

Once she understood the bigger picture, the conversation completely changed.

It wasn’t about pensions anymore.

It became about whether she wanted to keep working at the same pace, how she wanted to spend the next ten years and what freedom really looked like for her.

That’s what I love about this work.

It’s rarely just about the numbers.

It’s about understanding your finances well enough to make confident decisions about your life.

If you’ve been putting off getting clarity because you don’t know where to start, this could be the best two hours you invest in yourself.

Friday Round Up 💛 That came around quick!

A few really interesting client conversations this week, all at very different stages of life.

One in her late 30s, getting married, building a successful business and now thinking about how she can structure her finances and start building wealth. There was such an exciting energy around what comes next 🔥

Another conversation today started very differently.

Money felt heavy. Property, credit cards, bills and constantly moving money around.

Then we started talking about what she actually wanted.

🎉 Celebrating their anniversary and both turning 40
🇯🇵 A trip to Japan
❤️ More creativity, enjoyment and things to look forward to

Her whole face lit up.

And suddenly, creating some structure around the money felt lighter too.

Then there was a client I’ve known for over 10 years.

When we first met, life looked very different.

Now we’re talking about having the choice not to work within the next few years, improving her home and helping her boys start building their own savings and investments.

I felt really proud of how far she’s come, and very lucky to have been alongside her for part of that journey. 💛

Different ages.
Different circumstances.
Different amounts of money.

But the same theme kept coming through…

Money feels very different when you know what you want it to do for you.

Later this month I’m also off to Cornwall to support the next five day EVOKE training with the Kinder Institute of Life Planning, which I’m really looking forward to. 🥰

For now, a catch up with one of my besties tomorrow 😍

And yes, I’m already missing the sunshine! 😂☀️

Have a lovely weekend 💛
