Closing the gender gap in angel investing isnโ€™t just about representation, itโ€™s an economic opportunity.

A new article in Business Reporter, by Amy Knight, explores the continued gender disparity among UK angel investors and what greater participation from women could mean for founders, investment decisions and the wider early-stage ecosystem.

Featuring research from UKBAA, the piece highlights that while the UK angel investor base has grown by 54% since 2022, this growth has not yet been matched by balanced participation across gender.

A thought-provoking look at why creating clearer routes into angel investing matters for investors, founders and UK growth.

One finding from the latest Investing in Women Code report really stands out.

Angel groups with over 30% women investors made 98% of their investments in teams with women founders. For groups with less than 15% women investors, that figure was 77% into all-male founding teams.

The message? Who is in the investment ecosystem matters. Increasing the number of women in angel investing isnโ€™t just about representation. It can help broaden the pipeline of founders being backed too.

Thereโ€™s plenty more in the latest Investing in Women Code Annual Report, including the progress being made and where thereโ€™s still work to do.

Donโ€™t miss next Fridayโ€™s Angel Diaries session with Thomas Schreiber.

๐Ÿ” Invest Like You Mean It: conviction, ownership, and professionalising your angel strategy

What happens after you write the cheque? For Thomas Schreiber, thatโ€™s where the real work begins.

With 30 angel investments and a growing syndicate through Korra Ventures, Thomas has developed a conviction-led approach to investing: if you believe in a company, you stay in the journey. In this candid session, Thomas shares how his investment strategy has evolved, from early decisions and missed assumptions to building a more structured and disciplined approach to angel investing.

๐Ÿ”น Why long-term conviction matters more than chasing early liquidity
๐Ÿ”น How to approach cheque sizing with clarity, balancing conviction with risk
๐Ÿ”น How AI can support sourcing, due diligence and portfolio management, while keeping human judgment at the centre

Whether youโ€™re making your first angel investment or refining an established portfolio, this is a chance to hear how an experienced investor has built greater structure, discipline and conviction into his approach.

And coming up next in Angel Diariesโ€ฆ

Weโ€™ll be joined by Nic Lenz, who will explore what really makes an early-stage company defensible in a world where anyone can build a product in an afternoon. With 30+ angel investments and 25 companies in his portfolio, Nic takes a hands-on approach to founder due diligence, often mentoring and working with founders for months before investing.

More on Nicโ€™s session coming soon.
