Proper proud dad moment at the Swanscombe Tigers FC presentation night ⚽

This season we moved up and Carter definitely found it tough at times, but he never stopped working hard and kept pushing himself all season. I couldn’t be more pleased that he received the “Most Improved” award 👏

I’ve coached him and the team for the last 4 years, but my coaching days are done now… old age and injuries have finally caught up with me 😂

Loved every minute of it and am really grateful to have been part of such a great club that’s grown massively over the years and now has nearly 30 teams and over 400 playing members.

Maintaining healthy cashflow is essential for any SMEs to thrive.

It ensures that you have enough resources to pay for all your business expenses.

Here are our 4 top tips for managing your cashflow:

👉 Make regular cashflow projections for a specific period of time by estimating your revenue and identifying your expenses

👉 Stay on top of your bookkeeping and invoicing otherwise it will not be a true reflection of your financial situation.

👉 Reassess your financial situation often.

👉 Invest in technology to streamline your finance tasks.

Every penny counts, so if your business is struggling with cashflow or if you need help with the process, it’s worth taking professional advice.

We are often asked about income tax thresholds and what they are so I thought that I would share here:

⬩ Everyone gets a personal allowance, which is the amount you can earn tax-free (e.g. £12,570), so no tax is paid on this portion.

⬩ Income above the personal allowance up to £50,270 is taxed at the basic rate (20%).

⬩ Income from £50,270 to £125,140 is taxed at the higher rate (40%).

⬩ Income above £125,140 is taxed at the additional rate (45%).

First time working with a bookkeeper?

If you’re thinking of working with a bookkeeper this year, you will need to prepare a few documents so they can help you with your self-assessment tax return.

This is what you will need to do:

✅ Gather details of all business income, including invoices.
✅ Ensure you have records of all allowable business expenses (e.g. office cost, travel, software, professional fees, etc.).
✅ If you use a business bank account, you will need to share statements for the 2024/2025 tax year.
✅ If you contribute to a pension, you will need to send these details to your bookkeeper.
✅ Record any business loans and grants you received.
✅ And finally, share the details of last year’s return if applicable.

Believe in yourself, stay calm and try your best, that’s all your parents can ask for! You’ve got this!

Not everyone has it all figured out, and that’s completely fine.

When I was younger, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do.

My dad ran his own business and after visiting the accountant one day he said to me: “You are good with numbers, you should be an accountant, Ryan,” and it planted a seed that stuck with me.

The truth is, it’s okay not to know exactly what you want to do yet.

Focus on doing your best where you are right now. The rest will follow.

One of the most effective management approaches I’ve come across is also one of the simplest:

“Praise in public, criticize in private.” - Vince Lombardi

or

“Praise in public, correct in private.”

It sounds obvious, but in practice it’s often overlooked.

A genuine “thank you” or public recognition costs nothing, yet it can completely shift someone’s motivation, confidence, and sense of belonging. People remember when their work is seen and valued.

On the other hand, handling mistakes or performance issues privately protects trust, dignity, and relationships (without undermining the individual in front of others).

Good management is about consistent, human habits:
✔ Noticing good work
✔ Saying thank you
✔ Giving credit where it’s due
✔ Having difficult conversations with respect and discretion

It’s simple, but it works.

How do you approach recognition in your team?

What can I tick off your list as your bookkeeper?

If I were handling your books, here’s what you wouldn’t have to worry about anymore…

▪️I’d keep track of everything coming in and going out, so you’re never guessing where your money’s gone.

▪️I’d make sure your bank accounts and records match up properly.

▪️I’d organise your invoices and bills, and keep an eye on who needs paying (and who still owes you).

▪️I’d sort and categorise your expenses so you know exactly what you’re spending (and what you can claim).

▪️I’d give you simple, clear reports so you can actually understand how your business is doing.

▪️And when it comes to things like VAT or year-end, I’d make sure everything is in order and ready to go.

Basically… I’d handle the numbers, so you can focus on running your business!

If there were one habit I wish more business owners stuck to, it would be reconciling their accounts every month.

It might not feel urgent…

…but it’s one of the best habits you can build for your business

Here’s why:

❌ You could miss transactions or even duplicate entries, which could throw off your books and make your records inaccurate.

❌ Without regular reconciliation, it’s hard to get a clear picture of your cash flow (how do you know how much cash you really have?)

❌ It is also worth mentioning that scrambling through a year’s worth of unreconciled transactions right before tax time is stressful, time-consuming, and I definitely don’t recommend it.

Do yourself a favour: stay on top of it monthly and thank yourself come tax time (your bookkeeper/accountant will thank you too 😅).
