Triumph over adversity - the 3 Peaks, North Yorkshire challenge is a popular choice. Set in a backdrop of stunning Yorkshire countryside, the walk covers 24 miles of different elevations and terrain, even challenging rock scrambles and takes an incredible amount of effort and willpower.
The decision to complete the 3 Peaks, was based on the recovery challenge set by one of our Partners; Paul Elliott, this is his story, along with others:
Paul, sustained a devastating rugby tackle in September 2023, resulting in a double hip fracture and dislocation, an operation to fix it, a hospital stay and months of major rehabilitation, which continues to date with daily workouts and physio. Paul focussed on proving to himself that he has recovered by completing the challenge and that he did !
Marc, a founding Partner 20+ years ago and wealth adviser was looking at the 3 Peaks as a measure of testing his own fitness and resolve to complete a physical challenge and to see the Team come together and show our character. Marc contributed to the success of the day, being supportive across the board and using a razor-sharp, dry wit to cheer us up when we needed it !
Jade is our Admin Team Manager who returned in January from maternity leave after having her second child 10 months earlier. Jade’s personal challenge is a balancing act of being a mum of two and a professional career. Jade was testing her resilience, determination and taking on any challenge beyond her comfort zone. She certainly did that on Monday!
James is a senior mortgage broker, who spends a lot of his spare time in the Gym sculpting his physique. His test was that of endurance over terrain and encouragement to others. Always great company!
Luke, another Senior Broker, also brought his partner, who was lovely company and a good sport too on such a challenge. Luke saw this as another challenge to chalk off in his preparation to train for running a marathon in 2026 !!!
Matt, is our Team Mortgage Admin and is training to participate in a half Ironman next year, so he made it look easy, although challenging.
Reedy (Paul’s friend) was a great walk leader and support for the team.
My name is Alan and am the Ops Manager. My own personal challenge was following a heart attack 3 years ago last month, with a stent insertion to fix the blocked artery, I have not completed a very long, walk and one that involves considerable terrain elevation. I wanted to test my engine capacity for endurance and whether it matches my determination and resilience. I find a mixture of humour and focus got me to the end.
Our guests, Abbie, Louise, Andy, Brad and Reedy were great company on the day and our thanks go to them.
We are deeply proud of each other and despite the absolute exhaustion and the aches and pains, we have done something special and it was worth it.
Summitted the third peak inside 12 hours, off the mountains finally after 14 ½ hours, in darkness. Do it, be prepared to give it your all.
