Tax write offs business owners forget about

✨ Trivial gifts
→ Small gifts for directors/employees
→ Each transaction must be £50 or under
→ Capped at £300 a year for directors and family/household members

✨ Pension contributions
→ Paid from the company = usually corporation tax deductible

✨ Staff party
→ Christmas party, summer BBQ, chaotic bowling night
→ Up to £150 per person per year, and the same for their plus one

✨ Eye tests
→ Especially if you work on screens all day

✨ Medical checkups
→ Certain annual health screenings can be allowable

✨ Pay a family member a wage
→ If they genuinely work in the business
→ Admin, socials, bookkeeping, emails etc.

✨ Phone bill in the Ltd company name
→ Cleaner. Easier. An easy expense claim.

✨ Relevant life insurance
→ Life cover paid by the company, often tax deductible

✨ Director salary
→ If you don’t already have PAYE income elsewhere, this can unlock tax efficiencies + NI credits

✨ Mileage claim

Less:

* £11,432 Income Tax
(£12,570 tax-free personal allowance, then £37,700 × 20%, then £9,730 × 40%)

* £2,456.60 Class 4 NI
(£12,570 tax-free, then £37,700 × 6%, then £9,730 × 2%)

How to check your ID verification status or due date:

• Search for your company on the Companies House website
• Click on “People”
• Under “Officers,” you’ll see either:
* an ID verification due date, or
* confirmation that your ID has already been verified

• Click on “PSCs” (People with Significant Control)
• You’ll see the “ID verified from” and “ID verified to” dates or,
* confirmation that your ID has already been verified

5 important codes every new limited company needs to keep safe from day one 🔐

🔹 User ID
For your company HMRC login. Sent by email when you register the company.

🔹 Personal Code
Sent by email from Companies House when you verify your ID. One per director / person of significant control.

🔹 Company UTR
Posted to you by HMRC.

🔹 Company authentication Code
Posted to you by Companies House.

🔹 Company Authorisation Code
Posted to you by HMRC.

You’ll need that last one to activate Corporation Tax in your HMRC account, so you can manage your payments.
