Earning over £30,000? Making Tax Digital is coming for you in April 2027

Just six months from now, on 6 April 2027, Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax will reach a whole new group of people.

If your income (not profit) from self-employment and property adds up to more than £30,000, you’ll need to keep digital records and send HMRC quarterly updates using recognised software.

MalgraBooks is MTD Recognised by HMRC and can file your quarterly returns direct to the tax office in seconds.

HMRC published a reminder on 5 October urging everyone affected to sign up early, and we’d say the same.

Big news for anyone on MTD - Pulse can now automatically submit it for you!

Quick recap for anyone new to it: Making Tax Digital means HMRC now wants an update of your income and expenses every quarter, not just once a year. The eligibility for this varies, but millions will be required to take part over the next few years.

There's four submissions a year, four deadlines, and penalty points if you miss one.

We've just launched Auto MTD, and it does exactly what it says. Keep your income and expenses up to date in Pulse like you do now, and we'll work out your quarterly figures and send them to HMRC for you - automatically, every quarter before the deadline.

You're never in the dark, either. Each quarter Pulse will email you the figures scheduled to be submitted before anything is sent, so you can check them and make changes. If we can't find any records at all, we won't submit = we'll get in touch with you first. And your annual tax return doesn't change; that still needs your own sign-off.

It's included free on any MTD enabled package, and it's switched off until you switch it on! Head to your MTD dashboard in the portal, click the Auto MTD button and tick to confirm. Takes about ten seconds.

📱 The Pulse app just got a big update!

We've listened to the most common bit of feedback we get about the app: "I can't see what I've already entered." So we've fixed that, and a few other things along the way.

See everything at a glance
Every screen in the app, from Expenses and Income to Mileage, Shop Sales and Gift Vouchers, now opens on a list of your entries, newest first, with a search box at the top. Tap the + button to add something new.

Edit and delete on the go...
Spotted a typo, or entered something twice? Tap the entry, make the change and save. No more waiting until you're back at a laptop.

Receipts, sorted!
When you edit an expense that already has a receipt, you can view it or replace the photo straight from your phone.

Franchise Accounts, simplified
There's now a single Franchise Accounts screen, using weekly summaries by default. Weekly is the option we recommend, because each group carries its actual date, which matters for Making Tax Digital and VAT. If you'd rather keep using monthly, tap the cog and switch. The app remembers your choice.

Also in this new version...

🐶 Meet Scout
Our little accounting assistant is now available to all members. Scout can check your expenses for duplicates, flag anything unusual, summarise your mileage and give you a quick estimate of your tax. Scout is a helper rather than an accountant, so always double-check against your own records.

🪙 Coin Stacker
A new game in the app. Stack the coins, beat your high score, and don't blame us when your break runs long...

✅ Just close and reopen the app to pick up the update. If anything doesn't look right, message the support team and we'll sort it.

Making Tax Digital (MTD)? Done! ✅

We're so excited and honoured that 168 Slimming Wolrd Consultants chose MalgraBooks to submit their first ever Making Tax Digital (MTD) returns direct to HMRC!

Making the process as simple as just three clicks - and the data is submitted directly and processed by the Tax Office.
