Tax-Free Treats for Directors & Employees? Yes, really!

Did you know your business may be able to provide certain small gifts and perks without triggering tax or National Insurance?

✅ Cost £50 or less (including VAT)

✅ Not cash or cash vouchers

✅ Not part of an employee's contract

✅ Not given as a reward for work or performance

Examples could include: ☕ Coffee shop vouchers 🍫 Chocolates 🌸 Flowers 🍷 A bottle of wine

For directors of close companies, there's an annual limit of £300 per tax year, provided each individual benefit costs £50 or less.

⚠️ A celebratory birthday meal may qualify, but a meal provided as a reward for hitting targets won't.

Trivial benefits can be a simple and tax-efficient way to reward yourself or your team, but it's important to get the rules right.

🌞 Summer Opening Hours 🌞

Just to let you know, during August our office will be closing at 1pm every Friday.

Our team will continue to be available during our core normal hours Monday to Thursday (9am-5pm), and until 1pm on Fridays.

At Altorian, we believe that supporting our team with flexibility and a healthy work-life balance helps create a positive working environment where people can do their best work. In turn, that helps us continue providing the personal, responsive service our clients know and value.

We're pleased to be trialling these summer hours and look forward to making the most of the sunshine while continuing to support our clients and local businesses.

Outside of the office, Gemma enjoys playing rugby for Mistley Rugby Club and takes an active role in volunteering for the club. She was recently nominated for the “Game for All” award, which is a category in the RFU Volunteer of the Year Awards. It honours individuals or volunteer groups who have successfully developed inspiring programs to make rugby more accessible and attract new audiences.
Gemma won the category for the Eastern Counties and has been put forward to the national judging panel, which will be presented at Twickenham later this year. Go Gemma!
