😂 FRIDAY: ACCOUNTANT TRANSLATION SERVICE

Accountant says:
“Could you please send your records over when you get a chance?”

Translation:
Please. I’m begging you. Don’t make this a January problem. 😂

Accountant says:
“I just have a couple of queries…”

Translation:
There may be 17 questions attached.

Accountant says:
“Do you happen to know what this payment was for?”

Translation:
*I’ve stared at £38.47 going to ‘SQ JONES’ for ten minutes and I have absolutely no idea.

And finally…

Client says:
“I’ve got everything really organised for you this year.”

Accountant: 👀😂

Have a lovely Friday everyone!

❓ ASK COMP-U-COUNT

Is there something about tax, accounts, bookkeeping, VAT, PAYE or running your business finances that you’ve always wondered about but felt like it was a “silly” question?

Ask it below. 👇

Chances are, if you’ve wondered about it, plenty of other business owners have too.

There are no silly questions when it comes to understanding your own business and finances.

Pop yours in the comments and we’ll answer what we can. 😊

(Obviously, we can’t give specific tax advice without knowing your individual circumstances!)

👀 WHAT DOES AN ACCOUNTANT ACTUALLY DO WITH YOUR RECORDS?

You hand us a pile of statements, invoices and receipts…

…and eventually some accounts appear. ✨😂

But there’s quite a bit happening in between!

We reconcile your records, review income and expenditure, check balances, look for anything unusual or missing, make the necessary accounting adjustments, calculate the relevant figures and prepare everything that needs to be reported.

And sometimes we spend a surprisingly long time investigating a payment labelled something incredibly helpful like…

“CARD PAYMENT £47.83” 🤦‍♀️😂

So when we send you a list of questions, we promise we’re not just being nosey!

We’re trying to make sure your accounts are complete and accurate.

💡 TUESDAY ACCOUNTING TIP

“I paid for it from my personal account, so I can’t put it through the business.”

Not necessarily!

If you’ve personally paid for something that was genuinely for your business, don’t automatically leave it out of your records just because it didn’t come from the business bank account.

Keep the receipt and tell your accountant.

The same applies the other way around, paying for something from your business account doesn’t automatically make it a business expense.

It’s what the expense was actually for that matters.

Not sure about something?

Don’t guess, ask us. 😊

📢 SELF-ASSESSMENT CLIENTS: OCTOBER REMINDER

We’re now into October, which means the 31st January Self Assessment deadline is getting closer.

Comp-U-Count’s usual cut-off for guaranteeing completion ahead of the January deadline is 30th September.

This year, we’ve extended that to 31st October 2026.

If we don’t yet have your records, please don’t leave them until January!

Our guarantee is subject to receiving complete records and any queries being answered promptly.

Records received after 31st October will still be processed as quickly as possible, but we cannot guarantee completion before HMRC’s deadline.

📁 Records in = one less job hanging over you.

🧾 SUNDAY CONFESSION TIME…

Where are your business receipts currently living?

A )Beautifully filed and organised 😇
B ) In a folder waiting to be sorted
C ) Stuffed in a drawer
D ) In the glovebox of the car
E ) In several different places and we’re no longer entirely sure where 😂

No judgement from us, we’ve seen it all! ☺️

But getting into the habit of keeping your records together can save a LOT of time when your accounts are due.

So… A, B, C, D or E? 👇

☕ THE WEEKEND ACCOUNTANT

One of the joys of running your own business is that apparently your brain doesn’t understand the concept of “office hours” 😂

You can be happily minding your own business on a Saturday when suddenly…

💭 Did I send that invoice?
💭 Have I paid that bill?
💭 Where DID I put that receipt?
💭 When is my tax due again?!

Running a business comes with enough things to think about.

The accounts don’t need to be one of them.

That’s where we come in. 😊

Comp-U-Count

Taking some of the numbers off your mind… even when your brain decides to think about them at the weekend!

😂 ACCOUNTANT TRANSLATION SERVICE

When a client says:

"I've got everything ready for you."

What an accountant hears:

"I've brought you three carrier bags, half a year's bank statements, 47 receipts with no explanation, a random Post-it note and something from 2022." 😭

All joking aside, the better organised your records are, the less time we have to spend trying to work out what everything is — which means we can spend our time actually doing your accounts.

And please… bank statements are not optional. 😂

Any other accountants feeling this one today?

Comp-U-Count

📁 A little reminder from your friendly accountant…

Please don't wait until January to start thinking about your Self Assessment. 😬

The earlier you get your records together, the easier life is for everyone.

Bank statements ✔️
Invoices ✔️
Receipts ✔️
Mileage ✔️
Any other income ✔️

And if you're not sure what you actually need to provide? Ask me.

I'd much rather answer a quick question now than discover something is missing when we're trying to finish your accounts later.

Good bookkeeping doesn't have to be complicated — but leaving everything until the last minute certainly makes it feel that way! 😂
