This week is Talk Money Week.

Do you have a good relationship with money?

Do you talk openly with your family about your financial situation?

Do you understand what your future finances might look like?

These are just some of the questions that matter when looking at money and financial wellbeing. A staggering 94% of UK residents are stressed about money. So if you are worried, you are definitely not alone.

Take some time this week to think about your financial goals and objectives over the short, medium and long term and discuss these with your friends and family. The first step towards achieving these goals is understanding your current position.

I am looking forward to delivering a number of financial education sessions to a variety of employees across this week. It is great when people start to understand their finances better and take control rather than letting them drift along or worse spiral out of control. Is this something your teams might benefit from as well?

So do you understand your finances and are you in control?

What is important to you when investing?

Is it that your investments are a force for good or just that you get the best returns possible? Why not both?

The old myth that investors need to sacrifice some returns if they want to consider environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors in their investment strategy has rapidly gone out of fashion. There’s now plenty of evidence that shows how a company approaches these issues plays a significant role in long-term performance.

A clear workplace financial wellbeing strategy can boost mental health – and productivity.

The idea that a happy employee is a productive employee is one that few organisations would argue with. But while it sounds logical enough, it’s not always clear how employers can contribute to the wellbeing of their people.

Much of the focus now is on financial wellbeing in the workplace, given the effects of the pandemic on money worries and mental health.

It is really rewarding to be able to help people with their financial wellbeing and I am looking forward to delivering my next session to a business next week.

Investing in a child’s future could set them up for more than just a wealthier retirement

The financial challenges facing many parents will put the idea of building a nest egg for their children way down the list of priorities. But if one’s aim is to help a young child save for a distant goal, then the earlier these savings are started the better.

The benefits of a long-term approach to investing are time-tested and the principle is very simple: the longer an investment has to potentially grow, the greater the benefit will be from the year-on-year compound effect of reinvested returns.

Investing in a child’s future could set them up for more than just a wealthier retirement.

As we take our first tentative steps out of lockdown and focus on the gradual re-opening of the country, the start of a new tax year may have passed relatively unnoticed. However, thinking longer term and beyond the immediate crisis, and making early use of the investing tax breaks available, offers the potential to put you in a better position when markets do eventually recover.

Given the pace and magnitude of recent events, last month’s Budget already feels a very long time ago; but here’s a rundown of the main tax exemptions and allowances and what has, or hasn’t, changed for the new tax year.

Early use of the new tax year's allowances and exemptions could reap rewards over the longer term. Here are the key areas to think about.

UK adults are taking life milestones more seriously than ever following 12 months of restrictions. Are you?

It’s now been a year since Boris put the UK in full national lockdown (23rd March 2020). Although it might feel like the world has been put on pause over the last 12 months, new data released today shows that only one in five UK adults had to put their personal goals or ambitions on hold as a result.

Instead, most Brits have reassessed and changed their goals with the world around them (40%) or indeed have remained determined to follow their career, family or property dreams (31%).

What are your aspirations and do you have a plan to achieve them?

UK adults are taking life milestones more seriously than ever following 12 months of restrictions.
