UK AML supervision is changing and accountants need to pay attention 🚨

The government is giving all anti-money laundering oversight for accountants to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), ending professional body supervision. AIA is concerned this centralised approach risks side-lining the expertise and insight that professional body supervision has built over years.

Why it matters:

⚠️ Professional bodies like AIA have deep knowledge of accountancy firms and have helped embed a culture of compliance.

⚠️ A single regulator may lead to gaps in supervision, higher costs for smaller firms, and a more administrative “box-ticking” approach.
