HMRC has confirmed an increase to the approved mileage allowance rates rising from 45p to 55p per mile from 6 April 2026.

A welcome change for businesses and employees feeling the impact of rising fuel and motoring costs

Thursday was a proper day out of the office for the Awesome Accountants team at the UK’s biggest accounting and finance expo, .

It was brilliant catching up with the teams behind some of the tools we use every day to help our clients work smarter, including the team at x
Xero,Bright, Informdirect.co.uk and Xenon Connect.

We also got to meet our new Xero Partner and catch up with lots of familiar Xero faces throughout the day. One of the standout sessions was a brilliant demo showing how a single Xero subscription can be used for both sole trader and property income under MTD. Practical, straightforward and exactly the kind of solution we love finding for clients.

Another big highlight was seeing a demo from the team at Shapes of their new Plot by Shapes platform. Safe to say… game changer. The kind of tech that genuinely makes you stop and think “this is going to make life easier”.

Then to round off the day, we headed over the river on the cable car to the for an absolutely fantastic evening at Mamma Mia the party at the O2.

A great mix of learning, networking, new ideas and a bit of ABBA-fuelled chaos. Exactly how a Thursday should be.

Two years of Awesome Accountants… and what a journey it continues to be.

In the last year alone, things have stepped up a gear. We’ve moved into a new space, created a proper meeting area for clients (no more squeezing around a desk!), and set up a separate working space so the team can focus and get things done properly.

Speaking of the team… we are now a team of three. Not bad for something that started as just me and a big idea.

Our client numbers have increased by 75% in the last year alone, which is equal parts exciting and slightly ‘wow, that escalated quickly.’
It’s been busy, a bit chaotic at times, but absolutely worth it.

If you’ve been part of the journey so far, thank you. And if you’ve been watching from the sidelines thinking ‘I should probably get my accounts sorted’… consider this your nudge.
Here’s to the next year of awesome adventures.

A cracking start to the day at the Newhaven Chamber breakfast.

We heard about the incredible impact of the ABC Fund from Ann Bickermore—properly inspiring to see what’s being achieved locally when people pull together.

Huge congratulations to Simon Whitney for completing the marathon. I’m tired just thinking about it.

And a slightly surreal moment for me… I walked away with flowers from Arlette Florist after winning the “Oscar” for the best 60 seconds. Not something I had on my bingo card for a Thursday morning.

All topped off with celebrating Awesome Accountants being named runners-up in the HSBC and FSB Small Business Growth Awards (Start-Up category). Still smiling about that one.

If you’ve been thinking about coming along to a Chamber breakfast—do it. Good people, good conversations, and you never quite know what the morning will bring.

Big news from Awesome Accountants…

We were named runners-up in the HSBC & FSB Small Business Growth Awards. Not a bad place to be, if you ask me.

Sharon had the pleasure of attending the celebration dinner last night, and it was one of those moments where you stop, look around the room, and think… “wow, we’re actually in this.”

Running a business isn’t always smooth sailing (understatement of the year), so to be recognised like this means a lot. It’s a real nod to the work we do supporting brilliant small businesses to grow with confidence and clarity.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising such a fantastic event, and to the clients who trust us to be part of their journey. This one’s for you as much as it is for us.

Now… back to doing what we do best.

Not a bad way to spend a lunchtime…

Great to get out in Brighton with fellow accountants for an Accountants lunch – sharing ideas, swapping stories, and keeping each other sharp. It’s easy to forget how valuable it is to step away from the desk and actually talk to people who get what you do.

These conversations matter. They make us better at what we do for our clients.

And a big good luck to Donna Beddis at the awards today – we’re all rooting for you.
