September always seems to bring that familiar feeling of getting organised again.

The children are heading back to school, new routines are starting and there’s usually a shopping list somewhere with pens, notebooks, folders and all the other bits and pieces they suddenly need!

While you’re picking up stationery for the children, you might also be grabbing a new notebook for client meetings, printer ink for the office or a few pens and folders for work.

The question is, do you remember to keep the receipt?

Those little business purchases can easily be forgotten, especially when they’re mixed in with everything else we’re buying.

Stationery that is genuinely for your business can usually be claimed as a business expense, so keeping the receipt and recording the purchase means you’re not missing expenses simply because you’ve forgotten about them a few months later.

Just remember that the school pencil case and the children’s new pens can’t sneak through as business expenses too!

So, as we get the children organised and ready for a new school year, perhaps September is a good reminder to get our businesses a little more organised too.

Keep the receipt, record the expense and make life a little easier when it’s time to do your accounts.

There really is something satisfying about a brand-new notebook!

As accountants, we probably appreciate stationery a little more than most. There's something about a fresh page that feels full of possibilities.

It’s Friday, so we have a very important question…

What do accountants, musicians, freelancers, cake and a brass band have in common?

They’re all going to be in the same room at our networking event!

We wanted to do networking a little differently. Somewhere you can turn up, have a proper conversation, meet other local business owners and ask an accountant those questions you’ve been meaning to ask.

No awkward 60-second pitches. No formal presentations. Just relaxed networking, an open Q&A, tea, coffee and cake.

Then we’re handing things over to PITBrass to finish the afternoon with some brilliant live music.

There's something about this time of year!

The shelves are full of notebooks, pens, sticky notes and highlighters, and we can't help but have a little browse.

Some people get excited about the latest gadgets.

We get excited about stationery!

Maybe it's the accountant in us, but a new notebook and a good set of pens somehow make us feel organised before we've even written a word.

Now we have to ask…

What's the one piece of stationery you can never resist buying?

For us, it's definitely notebooks even though we probably have enough already!

When people think about wellness, they often think about eating well, exercising or taking time for themselves, but sometimes it's about giving someone a better night's sleep.

I wonder how many people think about the impact that worrying about finances can have.

This week, I met someone who admitted they had nearly cancelled our appointment.

They'd spent months trying to work everything out on their own, convincing themselves they should be able to do it. The longer they left it, the bigger it all felt.

Once we sat down and talked it through, everything became much clearer. They left with a plan that worked for them and their budget, and the relief on their face said it all.

That moment is my favourite part of the job.

Removing the fear from finance isn't just about accounts.

Sometimes it's about helping someone sleep a little better at night.

As August is National Wellness Month, perhaps it's worth remembering that financial wellbeing is part of your wellbeing too.
