If you get a message from HMRC about Making Tax Digital this month, don’t panic… but don’t ignore it either!

From this month, HMRC is starting to automatically sign up people who should already be using MTD for Income Tax but haven’t registered yet.

If that’s you, there are a couple of things you’ll need to check, including that HMRC has the right information about your income and that your accounting software is ready and connected.

New month, new term and back to the usual routines after summer… so it feels like a good time to say hello again 👋

If you’re new around here, Venton is home to two sides of the business.

How often do you log into Xero and actually take a proper look at your dashboard? 👀

There’s some really useful information there when it comes to understanding how your business is doing and spotting things that might need your attention.

Overdue invoices increasing, income looking different to what you expected, a healthy bank balance with a lot of payments coming up... they can all tell you something.

Here are a few things we think are worth keeping an eye on next time you’re in Xero.

And if you’re looking at your dashboard and aren’t quite sure what the numbers are telling you, give us a shout. We’re always happy to help.

We’re so excited to welcome a new member to the Venton team!

Riley has joined us as an Accounts Assistant while continuing his studies through a Level 4 Apprenticeship.

His interest in accounting started when he chose A-Level Accounting in 2023. He went on to complete AAT Level 2 alongside his A-Levels at Truro and Penwith College , before achieving his AAT Level 3 earlier this year.

Now, he’ll be putting that knowledge into practice at Venton while continuing to learn and work towards the next stage of his qualification.

Supporting apprenticeships and giving people the opportunity to learn, gain real experience and build their careers is something that’s really important to us at Venton and we’re looking forward to supporting Riley as he continues his.

We're right in the middle of August, routines are slightly out of the window, half the office seems to have an out of office on and the September to-do list is getting longer...

If keeping on top of the accounts has slipped a little further down the list over the summer, you're definitely not the only one.

There's still plenty of August left to enjoy but getting a few things in order now can make that return to normality in September feel a whole lot easier.
