One of the highlights of our trip to Aberfeldy was visiting the Scottish Crannog Centre.

It’s somewhere I used to visit as a child with my auntie, so it was special to go back with my own family.

After the original crannog was destroyed by fire a few years ago, they’ve been carefully rebuilding it using traditional methods.

We visited last year when there wasn’t much to see above the water. Most of the work was in the foundations. Unless you knew what was being built, it was hard to imagine what the finished result would look like.

This year was completely different.

The structure has taken shape and you can finally see the vision becoming a reality.

It reminded me that the most important work often happens long before anyone sees the end result.

The same is true of financial planning.

When you’re making regular pension contributions, investing for the future or building up savings, it can sometimes feel like nothing is happening.

Progress isn’t always obvious.

But every contribution is another part of the foundation.

With time, patience and a clear plan, those small building blocks can become something far greater than you first imagined.

The best time to start building is long before you need the finished result.
The value of your investment can go down as well as up. You could get back less than you invested.

I celebrated my 39th birthday this weekend in a way we’d been looking forward to for a long time.

We packed up the van and headed to Aberfeldy for our first family trip away.

Buying a van had been something we’d talked about for years. After plenty of planning and deciding the time was right, it was brilliant to finally make it happen.

Sitting back with a coffee, watching the kids play and having nowhere else we needed to be was a great reminder that some of life’s best moments are actually the simplest ones.

As another year passes, I’m feeling incredibly grateful for my family, the memories we’ve already made, and all the adventures still to come.

It’s easy to get caught up chasing the next thing, but sometimes it’s worth stopping to appreciate the things you’ve been looking forward to for years.

Here’s to another year of making memories. 🚐🎉

One of the best parts of my job is helping my clients to pass on their wealth to the next generation. Especially when you can see how much of a positive impact it will have on their lives.

One of my clients has an Inheritance Tax Problem. As part of our strategy to reduce the potential tax on her estate, she gifted an investment to her niece and her husband.

This couldn’t have come at a better time as their family had outgrown their home and they were desperately needing to move.

We established it would make most sense to use the gift to repay part of their mortgage. This would give them more equity to use towards the move while reducing their repayments, allowing them to save towards their new home.

I worked out the most efficient way for them to draw the funds they needed from the investment, saving them thousands of pounds in tax. I also advised them on some small but powerful changes they could make to improve their day to day finances ahead of the move.

This gift has brought their home move forward by several years and will eventually reduce the Inheritance Tax payable on my client’s estate – a real win/win!

If you’re thinking about passing on your wealth to the next generation, get in touch and I’d be glad to chat your plans through with you.

This was a lovely surprise to see today.

Being named a VouchedFor Top Rated Adviser and featured in The Telegraph is something I’m very grateful for.
