HMRC propose a new criminal offence for making reckless, untrue statements on direct taxes (eg Income Tax and National Insurance), aligning with existing rules for indirect taxes. Penalties could include up to two years’ imprisonment and unlimited fines. Carelessness would not be caught, but reckless behaviour would. HMRC are consulting on the plans ⚖️ What are your views?
