💫 Celebrating 25 years of Compass 💫

Twenty-Five Years. What A Milestone — And What A Reason To Celebrate! 🍾

On Thursday 15th October, we brought together our clients, friends, team and some very special guests to celebrate 25 years of Compass Independent Financial Services.

It was an afternoon filled with laughter, wonderful company, good food, drinks and plenty of memories. But more than anything, it was a chance to celebrate the people who have made Compass what it is today.

Over the past 25 years, Compass has been about so much more than financial planning. It’s been about people, relationships, trust and being there to guide our clients through life’s biggest moments — helping them plan for the future with confidence.

One of the real highlights of the day was welcoming back our co-founders, who retired many years ago. Having them there to celebrate this incredible milestone with us was a very special reminder of where our journey began, how far we’ve come, and the foundations on which Compass was built.

We also took the opportunity to celebrate our fantastic team with our team awards — recognising the people who work so hard behind the scenes and every day to look after our clients and make Compass the business it is today.

Because while 25 years is an incredible achievement, it’s the people behind it who make it truly special.

To everyone who joined us, and to all our clients who have trusted us over the years, thank you. Your support, loyalty and the relationships we’ve built together mean more than we can say.

As we look ahead to the next chapter, our commitment remains exactly the same: to offer personal advice, build lasting relationships and be there for the people who put their trust in us.

Because at Compass, it’s not just about where you are today, but where you want to be tomorrow — and knowing you have someone alongside you for the journey.

Here Today. Here Tomorrow. Here For You.

With our best wishes
The Compass Team

Is your investment style helping or holding you back?

Investment decisions aren’t just about numbers—they’re often influenced by emotions, past experiences, and unconscious biases too.

When markets are volatile, it’s tempting to react. But staying focused on your long-term strategy is often more important than responding to short-term emotions.

Here are four simple ways to stay on track:

✔ Refer back to your investment strategy before making big decisions.
✔ Focus on your long-term goals, not short-term market movements.
✔ Review both your investment performance and the decisions you’ve made.
✔ Talk to your financial planner before making changes.

A well-planned investment strategy should reflect your goals, your attitude to risk, and your circumstances—not just how you’re feeling on a particular day.

If you’d like to discuss your investment strategy or check whether you’re still on the right track, we’re here to help.

We’re delighted to be supporting a fantastic local initiative! 🏊‍♀️

We are pleased to have made a £500 donation to Seachelles Swim School towards their plans to develop a new Community Swimming Pool.

This is a project that is particularly close to our hearts, as children of one of our directors currently swim with Seachelles. We’ve seen first-hand the positive experience the swim school provides for children and families, and we know just how important learning to swim and developing water confidence can be.

The new community pool would provide a dedicated, accessible facility for learn-to-swim programmes, school swimming, water safety education, fitness, rehabilitation and wider community activities.

We’re proud to support a project that could make such a lasting difference to local children and families for generations to come.

We’re also helping to spread the word about their fundraising campaign. If you’d like to support this fantastic project, you can find out more here:

Good luck Michelle and Kylie — we’re delighted to be behind you! 💦🐟🏊‍♀️

Financial planning is about more than simply building wealth.

When you think about financial planning, you might immediately think about investing, growing your assets or preparing for retirement.

But good financial planning is about so much more than that.

It’s about understanding where you are now, where you want to be in the future, and creating a clear plan to help you get there.

Here are 5 benefits of long-term financial planning that you may not have considered:

💷 1. Making your money more tax-efficient
The way you save and invest can make a significant difference over the long term. A financial plan can help identify opportunities to use tax-efficient options that are appropriate for your circumstances.

🧘 2. Greater peace of mind
Having a clear plan can help you feel more confident and in control of your finances, knowing that you’re working towards your future goals.

💭 3. A better relationship with money
Taking the time to understand your financial habits and decision-making can help you make more informed choices and avoid impulsive decisions that could affect your long-term plans.

👥 4. A different perspective
Sometimes, having someone who understands your finances and your goals to talk things through with can be invaluable. Whether it’s considering early retirement, helping your children financially or making a major financial decision, an independent perspective can highlight opportunities or potential pitfalls you may not have considered.

🌿 5. Working towards financial freedom
Perhaps the biggest benefit of all is knowing what “enough” looks like for you. A financial plan can help you understand what you need to achieve your desired lifestyle — and may even show you that you’re closer than you thought.

Financial planning isn’t just about having more money.

It’s about making sure your money is working towards the life you want to live. 💜

If you’d like to understand whether your current financial plan is on track, we’d be happy to have a conversation.

💜 What legacy do you want to leave behind?

When people think about passing on wealth, they often think of writing a will. But there are actually several ways to help the people you care about – and the right approach could make a real difference to your family's future.

Here are four ways you could pass on your wealth:

🏡 Gift during your lifetime – Helping loved ones when they need it most, such as contributing towards a first home, can often have a bigger impact than waiting until later. It may also help reduce a future Inheritance Tax bill, although the rules can be complex.

📜 Write (and regularly review) your will – A will ensures your wishes are known and gives you control over who inherits your assets and when.

💷 Update your pension expression of wish – Your pension doesn't automatically follow your will, so it's important to tell your pension provider who you'd like to receive your pension benefits.

🔒 Consider a trust – Trusts can allow you to pass on assets while keeping control over how and when they're used, helping to protect your wealth for future generations.

Every family is different, and there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. A well-planned estate can help ensure your wealth is passed on in the way you intended, while potentially reducing unnecessary tax and providing for the people who matter most.

If you'd like to discuss your estate planning or explore the options available, we'd be happy to help.

*Please note: Estate planning, trusts and wills can be complex, and tax treatment depends on your individual circumstances and may change in the future. This post is for general information only and should not be considered financial or legal advice.*
