A place in a nursing home can cost £1,267 a week or even more1, and anyone with significant assets won’t qualify for state support. As we are all living longer, it is something more of us will need to consider and plan for in later life.

Our guide explores who qualifies for help towards social care and care home costs. It also looks at the complex rules around gifting assets and how this is viewed under the means test for care fees.

For many business owners, keeping up with employment law can feel like trying to hit a moving target. Regulations change, new rights are introduced, and it can be difficult to know which updates require immediate action and which can wait. Chloe Carey, an HR specialist at business consultancy Elephants Child, looks at the most important things business owners need to consider now.

The changes being introduced throughout 2026 and into 2027 represent some of the biggest shifts to employment rights in over a decade. While many employers are aware that legislation is changing, fewer have considered what these changes mean in practical terms for their business, their managers, and their day-to-day processes.

The good news is that there is still time to prepare and ensure compliance.

Women are earning, creating, inheriting and managing more wealth than ever before. Yet research suggests this is not matched by greater confidence or engagement with long-term financial decisions.

The report shows while women take the lead with day-to-day household budgeting, they are less confident and engaged than men about managing long-term finances. They’re also less likely to have taken financial advice or have a financial plan, and more likely to be struggling financially.

The government has announced a 22% charge on the interest on cash savings held within non-cash ISAs, including stocks and shares ISAs and innovative finance ISAs, from April 2027.

ISA providers and investors have been calling for government to give clarity on the treatment of cash holdings in non-cash ISAs. It follows the announcement in the Budget in November last year of a reduction in the annual tax-free cash ISA allowance for the under-65s from next April.

On 23 June 2016 the UK voted in a referendum to leave the European Union, by a narrow margin of 52% to 48%. The UK had been a member state of the EU since 1973 and the outcome of the vote – and the decision to abide by what was a legally non-binding referendum – caused widespread anger among ‘remainers’ and jubilation among ‘leavers’.

While the fierceness of the debate may have dialled down over the past 10 years, Brexit still invokes strong feelings in many of us. But what material impact has leaving the EU had on household finances, stock markets and even (arguably) the Eurovision song contest?

We’re delighted to have received this certificate from the St. James's Place Charitable Foundation, recognising the funds raised through our Snowdon challenge in support of Flourish Project UK.

A special thank you to The Flourish Project for the invaluable work you do to support people in our community. We’re proud to have played a small part in helping your work continue.

Thank you once again to everyone who made this possible.

Nobody likes to think of themselves as being vulnerable, but the reality is that all of us will likely experience periods of vulnerability at some stage in our lives. Vulnerability can be caused by a range of factors, such as physical or mental illness, bereavement, the end of a relationship, or significant financial pressures.

The value of protection insurance is clear. Cover brings peace of mind that the people you care about most will have a financial safety net should the worst happen.

Protection policies paid out a record £8 billion in life, critical illness and income protection claims in 2024, according to figures from the industry’s trade body the Association of British Insurers1.

None of us know what’s round the corner. Yet many of us still cross our fingers, and trust that ‘it won’t happen to me’.

After losing someone close to you even simple tasks can feel overwhelming – and dealing with finances can be hardest.

But you don’t have to tackle everything at once. When you feel ready ask a family member or friend to help you.

There are some practical and legal steps to go through. While these can feel daunting, taking it one step at a time can make things more manageable.
