Look what Helen found during an office clear out! 👀

Whilst sorting through some old files, Helen came across this NHS poster from 2007, helping businesses prepare for the smoking ban.

It got us thinking about how much has changed since then.

In 2007:
☕ A cup of coffee cost around £2
⛽ Petrol was around £1 per litre
🏡 The average UK house price was around £180,000

Today, the cost of living is significantly higher and many people are feeling the impact of inflation on their savings and spending power.

Just as businesses were encouraged to prepare for change back then, it's important to review your finances regularly to make sure your savings and investments are still working hard for you.

After all, money sitting still can lose value over time.

If it's been a while since you reviewed your financial plans, we'd be happy to help.

💡 Looking for a tax-efficient way to invest?

An Investment Bond can be a useful option for those looking to grow their money while keeping tax administration simple.

Some potential benefits include:

✔️ No Capital Gains Tax when switching between funds within the
bond
✔️ Tax can often be deferred until withdrawals are made
✔️ Useful for certain inheritance tax and trust planning strategies
✔️ Can help with tax planning in retirement

Investment Bonds aren't suitable for everyone, but in the right circumstances they can be a flexible and tax-efficient way to invest.

If you'd like to understand whether an Investment Bond could be appropriate for your situation, please get in touch.

We are proud to sponsor the Fundraiser Award at this year's Plymouth Community Awards.

Fundraisers make an incredible difference to local charities and community organisations, often working tirelessly behind the scenes to support causes close to their hearts. If you know someone who has gone above and beyond to raise money for others, please consider nominating them.

Good luck to all the nominees, and thank you to everyone who helps make our community a better place. 💜

We recently closed the office for our traditional annual team volunteering day.

We were delighted to be invited by the YMCA Plymouth to help redecorate their children's soft play area. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to give something back to the local community and support an organisation that makes a real difference to so many families.

The soft play facility provides an affordable, welcoming space for children and is also used by a number of other charitable organisations, helping to deliver valuable support across Plymouth.

We are proud to play a small part in helping maintain such a worthwhile community resource and would like to thank everyone at YMCA Plymouth for making us feel so welcome.

It was a privilege to support the Ladies Lunch Plymouth charity event in aid of St Luke's Hospice Plymouth at the Leonardo Hotel last week. 💚

The work carried out by St Luke’s is truly remarkable. Around £13.6 million is needed each year to fund their services, supporting approximately 300 patients at any one time and providing compassionate care to more than 3,200 terminally ill patients and their families.

Their comprehensive, integrated services reach people across the local community, hospitals and their specialist inpatient unit at Turnchapel, ensuring individuals receive the care, dignity and support they deserve when they need it most.

A special well done to Lisa Thomas for organising such a fantastic event and bringing together so many people in support of this wonderful cause. 👏

☀️ It's a scorcher out there! ☀️

Whilst many of us are enjoying the sunshine, it's important to remember to take extra care in the heat.

💧 Stay hydrated
🧴 Wear sunscreen
👒 Keep out of the midday sun where possible
🏠 Check in on elderly relatives, neighbours and vulnerable friends
🐾 Don't forget about your pets

At West Financial Management, we're also big believers in planning ahead. Whether it's preparing for a heatwave, retirement, or protecting your family's future, a little preparation today can make a big difference tomorrow.

Stay safe, stay cool and enjoy the sunshine! 😎
