"We're married, so it all goes to my wife anyway."
I hear this almost every week. In Northern Ireland, it's often not true. 👇
If you die without a will, the law decides who gets what. It doesn't matter what you'd have wanted. That can mean:
🏠 your children getting a share of the family home alongside your spouse
👨👩👧 your parents or siblings inheriting, if you don't have children
💔 an unmarried partner getting nothing at all
And the rules here aren't the same as in England. The same family can get a completely different result depending on which side of the water they live on.
The good news is that a will sorts all of this out, and it's usually a lot simpler than people expect.
