UPDATE: HMRC have u-turned, which is great news for tax payers but, honestly, how can you run an organisation like this? It’s completely chaotic!

Well this is a whole new low, isn’t it?

Article in the comments if you can’t access it on the website. As if things with HMRC aren’t bad enough, they’re cutting their services further.

That said, the most worrying bit of the article is the quote from Rishi (penultimate paragraph). On what evidence has he formed this opinion I wonder? A man who has clearly never had to call HMRC or, for that matter, use the NHS, public transport, state education, I could go on. It would seem he’s taken a leaf out of Michael Gove’s book and decided against listening to experts. What a fantastic attribute for our Prime Minister 🤦‍♀️🤯

What a major blow for those wanting to get their self assessments submitted early!! Truthfully, it won't affect most people, but if you have an issue that can't be solved on your digital account, you will have to wait until 4th September for a resolution.

HMRC is to close the self assessment helpline for three months from 12 June, with taxpayers having to rely on digital services instead.

I’ve been talking to my clients about Making Tax Digital for Income Tax for the last couple of years. It was supposed to go live April 2023 and was then pushed back to April 2024.

My clients are aware that this is on the horizon but I’ve held off really pushing this agenda because I fully expected the timelines to be pushed back by HMRC again.

So here it is. A further two year delay.

Roundtable discussion this morning with Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Jonathan Reynolds MP to discuss the impact of COVID on small businesses.

Representatives from all over the country and from many business sectors talking about the issues they're facing and the support needed. Financial concerns were discussed at length but there was also an acknowledgement of the massive repercussions on mental health.
