A client came into a recent meeting planning to invest £500 a month into her pension.

She left feeling comfortable increasing it to £2,000.

Not because I persuaded her to, but because she could clearly see what was possible.

Using Voyant, we mapped out her financial future and tested different contribution levels live on screen. This allowed her to see the potential impact on her retirement, as well as what each option would mean for her finances today.

She already had the capacity to contribute more. What she needed was the confidence that doing so wouldn’t compromise everything else.

That’s what good financial planning is all about. Helping people understand their options and make informed decisions with confidence.

The right decision will be different for everyone and depends on their individual circumstances.

Could you afford to retire earlier than you think? 👀

This is a question I’ve been exploring with several clients recently using Voyant cash flow modelling.

It brings your financial future to life, helping you see:

✅ When you could realistically retire
✅ Whether you’re saving enough
✅ What level of income you may have
✅ Whether you could afford to spend more or help your family

One client recently told me they had been “burying their head in the sand” because they didn’t know what they needed to do.

After seeing everything mapped out clearly, they described it as “life-changing”.

Financial planning isn’t just about pensions and investments. It’s about understanding what your money could allow you to do with your life.

The image shown is an illustrative model only. Cash flow modelling uses assumptions, and actual outcomes may differ.

It’s been a little quiet from me on here recently, but certainly not because there hasn’t been much going on. In fact, quite the opposite!

The last few months have been incredibly busy, and I’ve been fortunate to welcome a number of new clients. I’ve been helping families and business owners with everything from investments and pensions to protection and cash-flow planning.

I’ve also made sure I’ve had some time away from the desk with the children during the school holidays.

As we head towards September, I’m looking forward to getting back out there, reconnecting with people and doing more networking, both online and face-to-face.

Today’s office setup: cash-flow modelling on one screen and the cricket on the other. Proof that men can multitask after all!

I’ve been pretty useless on social media over the last few weeks, but it’s genuinely been the busiest spell I’ve had for a long time!

It’s been a brilliant couple of months, helping clients with everything from retirement planning and investments through to inheritance tax planning, protection, and cash flow planning. Every client has different goals and challenges, and that’s what makes the job so enjoyable.

I know I don’t post loads about the day-to-day side of being a financial adviser, but I really do appreciate everyone who’s trusted me to help them recently.

I’ve still managed to find a bit of time for the World Cup, though! ⚽

This is us celebrating Harry Kane's equaliser on Wednesday !

One question… what’s everyone’s plan for the 1am kick-off on Monday morning? Early night and set the alarm, or just power through?

Whatever you decide, let’s hope it’s worth staying up for! 🤞

Delighted to share that the volunteers of Romsey Family Support Group have been awarded the 2026 Test Valley Volunteer Star Award from Unity.

As a trustee and treasurer of the charity, I feel incredibly proud to be a small part of such a fantastic organisation. This award is thoroughly deserved and is recognition of the amazing work our volunteers, alongside the staff team, do to support local families in the community.

A huge congratulations and thank you to everyone involved. The care, time and dedication that goes into helping others really does make a difference.

Well… what a week 😅

An extremely busy one with lots of client meetings, plenty of miles travelled and lots of great conversations with clients along the way.

It was also really nice to spend some time yesterday evening catching up with my friends, always good to have a laugh and put the world to rights.

Of course, there’s also been the small distraction of the Spygate situation in between 😩 ⚽️ Safe to say, I thought we’d all be Wembley-bound tomorrow… but sadly not 💔

Now though, I’m really looking forward to a hot, sunny bank holiday weekend with the kids, making the most of some family time and a BBQ. Apparently it starts with ice lollies after school. 😁

Whatever you’re up to this bank holiday weekend, I hope you get chance to switch off for a bit and enjoy it.

Have a great one everyone ☀️

Old pensions

People don’t intentionally lose track of pensions.

👉 Life just gets busy.

👉 You change jobs.

👉 Letters stop arriving.

👉 Providers rebrand.

👉 Passwords disappear.

And suddenly you’ve got pensions sitting in different places that haven’t been looked at for years. 📂

✅ Sometimes they’re absolutely fine where they are.

❌ Sometimes they’re not.

But either way, it’s usually worth understanding what you actually have.
A lot of financial planning isn’t about doing anything drastic.
It’s about getting organised and making informed decisions 👍

The pressure of keeping on top of money.

Sometimes the biggest benefit of a financial plan isn’t actually financial.

It’s clarity.

📂 Knowing where everything is

📊 Knowing what’s happening

✅ Knowing somebody is helping keep things on track

A lot of people carry financial stress quietly in the background for years.

👉 Old pensions.

👉 Savings accounts.

👉 Protection policies.

Plans they keep meaning to revisit “when things calm down.”
The problem is… life rarely calms down on its own.

And often, simply getting organised can feel like a huge relief.
Not because everything suddenly becomes perfect.

But because things finally start to feel clearer and more in control.

If any of this resonates with you, it might be a sign that getting financial advice could help bring a bit more clarity and confidence around your finances.

The cost of doing nothing 📉

Not in a good “stay invested” way.

More in a “I’ll sort that later” way.

📂 Old pensions left where they are.
💷 Cash sitting in accounts not really doing much.
📋 Plans that were started but never revisited.

It’s easy to leave things as they are, especially when life is busy.

But over time, doing nothing can have a cost.

❌ Missed opportunities
❌ Inefficiencies
❌ Things not quite working as well as they could

A lot of the value in financial planning isn’t about doing something drastic.

It’s about making sure what you already have is working properly ✅

Over the last few weeks, I’ve had a lot of conversations around ISAs, pensions, markets and just general planning.

And the common theme across all of them is pretty simple.

There’s rarely one big decision that changes everything.

It’s usually a series of smaller ones.

Using allowances 📊

Staying consistent 🔁

Reviewing things as life changes 🔍

None of it is particularly flashy, but together it builds something meaningful over time.

And that’s really what most people are trying to do.

Not chase perfection.

Just make good decisions, consistently 👍
