For anyone wondering why I decided to move H&S Accounting out of my home office and into proper business premises… 😂🐾

I think this video explains everything!

Turns out my four-legged colleagues weren't quite as committed to productivity as I was! 💜

🎂 It’s a big one… 33.33 + VAT! 😂💜

I’m taking a very well-earned break to celebrate the big 4-0, so I’ll be out of the office until 12th October. ✈️☀️🍹

I will be keeping an eye on emails and messages intermittently, but responses will be slower than usual. Anything non-urgent will be picked up properly when I’m back, refreshed, recharged and another VAT quarter older. 😂

Thank you, as always, to all my lovely clients for keeping me so busy and for your continued support of H&S Accounting Ltd. 💜

Now, where’s the cake… 🎂🥂

What an amazing result! 🐾💜

Our Fun Dog Show at the Hadleigh Community Summer Fayre raised an incredible £311!

That means £155.50 has been donated to Tilly’s Angels, helping support the fantastic work they do to reunite lost dogs with their families. 🐶💜

A huge thank you to everyone who entered the show, bought liver cake, donated, helped out, or simply came along to support us. Every single one of you helped make the day such a success.

And a very special shout out to our wonderful judges, Dawn & Sue from Tuk’s Law, and Roma from Tilly’s Angels, for giving up their time and helping make the show so much fun. 💜🐾

If you don’t already follow Tuk’s Law, please head over to their page and give them a follow. The work they do to raise awareness and push for change is incredibly important.

We had so much fun putting the show together, and I think it’s safe to say this won’t be the last one! 👀🐾

Thank you, Hadleigh! 💜

🚨 A major change to the way Income Tax could be paid is being considered... and hardly anyone is talking about it.

HMRC is currently consulting on proposals that could see self-employed individuals and landlords paying Income Tax much closer to when they earn it, rather than under the current Self Assessment payment system.

This isn't Making Tax Digital. It's about when you pay your tax.

Some of the ideas being considered include more frequent tax payments based on estimated profits.

As accountants, we have a number of concerns, including:

💷 Increased pressure on cash flow for small businesses.
📈 Paying tax on estimated profits that may never actually materialise.
🌾 The impact on seasonal businesses with fluctuating income.
📋 More administration, more adjustments and more uncertainty.

Perhaps the biggest concern of all is that many taxpayers don't even know this consultation exists.

Whether you support these proposals or oppose them, HMRC needs to hear from the people who'll actually be affected.

⏳ The consultation closes on 4 August 2026, so if you're self-employed, a landlord, or work with those who are, please take a few minutes to have your say.

💬 I'd genuinely love to know your thoughts.
Would paying Income Tax throughout the year help you budget, or would it place even more pressure on small businesses?
👇 Let me know in the comments.

Are anyone else's brains 🧠 not braining today 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵

💜 HMRC has announced a temporary reduction in VAT from 20% to 5% on certain children's meals and family leisure activities between 25 June and 1 September 2026.

If you run a café, restaurant, cinema, theatre, soft play centre, adventure attraction or similar leisure business, it's worth checking whether your supplies qualify.

The rules aren't always straightforward, particularly where bundled packages and mixed supplies are involved, so please don't assume everything automatically falls within the reduced rate.

If you're one of our affected clients, we'll be happy to help you understand what this means for your business and ensure your VAT treatment is correct before making any changes.

As always, we're here to help you navigate the small print, so you don't have to. 💜

Today's office update...

☎️ Called HMRC
☎️ Put on hold
☎️ Transferred
☎️ Explained everything
☎️ Transferred again
☎️ Explained everything again
☎️ Disconnected

All for the privilege of paying tax. 🤷‍♀️

People often think an accountant's day is spent crunching numbers. In reality, a fair chunk of it is spent sitting on hold trying to sort things out for clients.

The good news? While I'm stuck listening to HMRC's hold music, you can get on with running your business. 💜

📧 A little favour to ask... 💜

We've recently been having some issues with our emails deciding that clients' junk folders are the place to be 🙈

Please could you take a moment to add our email address to your contacts and mark us as a ⭐ VIP/Important sender. This helps tell your email provider that our messages are safe and should land in your inbox where they belong.

We are working hard behind the scenes to resolve this from our end, but unfortunately it also needs a little help from you too.

If you're waiting for a reply, a document for signature, a reminder, or anything else from us, please do check your junk or spam folders just in case.

Thank you so much for your patience and support. We really do appreciate it 💜

New tax year, clean slate… let’s not repeat last year’s chaos 💜

If January had you stressed, chasing paperwork, and questioning your life choices… this is your sign to do things differently this time.

Start early. Stay organised. Make it easy for yourself.

Your future self (and your accountant) will thank you 🙃

If you want this year to feel calm instead of chaotic, you know where I am 💜
