Behind every business is a team - and ours just had a day to remember. 🩵

Last month, the Ellacott Morris team headed to Wivenhoe House Hotel for our annual Team Away Day. A day away from the desks, the deadlines, and the day-to-day, to focus on something just as important: each other.

We celebrated the wins we're proud of, talked honestly about the challenges too, and mapped out where we want to take this business over the next 5 years.

If you are new to the world of self-employment, there are various rules that you have to abide by.

The basic rules are:

👉You must keep an up to date record of income
👉You must be able to provide a receipt for income received
👉Records must be kept for at least five years after the 31 January submission deadline of the relevant tax year. For example, if your 2025-26 return is due online by 31 January 2027, you must keep your records until at least the end of January 2032
👉You must advise HMRC that you have a new source of income and hence need to complete a tax return by 5th October in your business' second tax year
👉Expenses claimed must be reasonable and for business purposes, and an up to date record should be kept of them
