Payment on Account Deadline: Due 31 July

If you are self-employed or a company director with income outside of PAYE, be sure to mark 31 July in your diary.

This is the second Payment on Account deadline of the year, and it often surprises people every summer.

Not because they've forgotten Self-Assessment exists. But because they've forgotten this second instalment is due, on top of everything else going on in July.

Are you unsure what your Payment on Account will be, or whether it is the correct amount for you this year? It is worth checking now, while there is still time to plan, rather than just pay.

5 Signs You're Leaving Tax Planning Discussions to Late

1. You only discuss tax after the year-end.

2. Your dividend strategy changes every year.

3. You don't know your likely Corporation Tax bill until the accounts are prepared.

4. Major purchases happen without considering tax implications.

5. Pension contributions are treated as a last-minute decision.

The best tax planning opportunities usually happen before the financial year ends, not after.

Good tax planning is proactive... Not reactive.

The hidden benefit of cloud accounting has nothing to do with bookkeeping.

When you move to Xero or cloud accounting software, you probably expect:
• fewer spreadsheets
• simpler bookkeeping
• easier VAT returns
And they get all those things.
But the biggest benefit is usually something else entirely.

Visibility.

You can see what’s happening in your business much sooner. No more waiting months for information. You can spot cash flow issues before they become problems. Review your performance in real time. Make decisions with more confidence, because you have the numbers you need, when you need them.

Good software doesn’t replace good advice. At Numeric, we combine powerful cloud tools with proactive, personal support and great advice that's far more effective, and you get real results.

We are seeing an increasing number of directors caught out by Making Tax Digital. Not because they run a limited company.

But because they own property personally, without realising the extra requirements.

Directors assume MTD won’t affect them, simply because their company already files VAT returns digitally.
What many don’t realise is that personally owned rental properties create separate reporting and deadlines under MTD for Income Tax.
The question isn't whether your business is digital.

The real question:
Are all your personal income streams ready?

If you're a company director who also:
• owns rental property
• has a side business
• receives self-employed income
It’s worth reviewing how these changes could affect you before the deadlines approach.

The directors who prepare early will find the transition smooth and stress-free. That’s the difference the right advice makes.

Those who leave it until the last minute may have a different experience altogether.

At Numeric, we help you get ahead of these changes, so you’re always in control.

The biggest reason businesses change accountants isn't what most people think.

Business owners don’t move because of a mistake or an error. It’s rarely that dramatic.

They move because they’ve stopped seeing real value or proactive support.

The business has grown: more staff, bigger decisions, new tax considerations, and greater cash flow pressure. But the advice and support they receive looks the same as it did five years ago. The accounts are filed, the tax return is submitted, and the compliance work is done.

But nobody is asking the important questions:
• Are your margins where they should be?
• Is your pricing still working?
• Are you extracting profit tax efficiently?
• What will your cash flow look like in six months?

The best accountant for a start-up is rarely the best fit for a £2m turnover business.

Businesses evolve.

That’s why the support around you should evolve too. At Numeric, we specialise in helping growing businesses get the insights and advice they need for each new stage.

If you’re making big financial decisions without much input from your accountant, it may be time for a conversation. We’re here to help you get more from your numbers and from your accountant.

At Numeric, we call this the most expensive sentence in business.
"We’ll deal with it later."

It’s amazing how many financial headaches start with those four words.

Pricing review?
Later.

Cash flow forecast?
Later.

Tax planning?
Later.

Management accounts?
Later.

The challenge? Financial issues rarely get smaller with time; they usually grow.

The business owners who feel most in control financially are the ones who tackle things early, not later. That’s where Numeric helps, bringing clarity, action, and peace of mind before small issues become big ones.

We recently asked a small business owner who is a potential Numeric client a simple question that completely changed the conversation.
“Do you know which customer actually makes you the most profit?”

Not the biggest customer. Not the customer with the highest turnover. The most profitable customer.

There was a long, thoughtful pause.

Business owners can often assess their turnover, bank balance, and the number of staff they employ.

But far fewer can pinpoint which clients generate the best margins, which services are most profitable, or which customers consume the most time.

Yet these are exactly the numbers that drive better decisions and unlock actionable insights.

Growth becomes much easier when you really know where your profit comes from. At Numeric, we challenge you to turn your numbers into opportunities for growth.

That’s why smart management reporting has become so valuable for ambitious businesses looking to stay ahead in a changing world.

Not all clients' revenue is created equal.
