You don't need 30 years' head start to build your own talent instead of chasing someone else's.

We've been doing it since we started, above a hairdresser, with 5 staff. It's how we grew every single year since, and it's why we've just been shortlisted for Employer of the Year.

Here's the short version of what actually works 👇 (swipe through)

Save this one if you're thinking about your next hire.

Culture isn't the wording on your office wall. It's what happens on an ordinary Tuesday.
The colleague who stays late to help someone else. The manager who admits they got it wrong. The person who looks for the opportunity instead of the excuse.

None of it's in a job description. All of it is why clients stay.

Three worth asking your team this week: do we reward ownership or just activity? Are we building problem solvers or permission seekers? Are people in roles that play to their strengths?

We’re incredibly proud to share some fantastic news… 🎉

Our Co-Managing Partner, Emma White, has been named one of Ignition’s Top 50 Women in Accounting 2026!

More than 1,265 nominations were received globally, with just 50 women selected for this year’s list.

For us, this recognition is particularly special because we’ve had a front-row seat to Emma’s journey.

Emma joined A4G as an 18-year-old school leaver and, 27 years later, is helping lead the business she has grown alongside by shaping how we support clients, develop our people, and build the culture we're proud of today.

A huge congratulations, Emma. We’re incredibly lucky to have you leading A4G ❤️

And congratulations to all of the other women recognised in this year’s Top 50. We’re proud to see Emma among such an inspiring group of women helping shape the future of accounting.

549 years. That's how long our team has collectively worked at A4G. We believe that’s what happens when you build talent instead of buying it.

31 years ago, we started as a small accountancy practice above a hairdresser, and now there are over 75 of us who have grown together.

Five of our seven partners, including both Joint Managing Partners, joined as Level 1 trainees. That’s not luck but the result of three decades of the same approach to recruitment.

Everyone's asking what AI will replace.

It'll take the routine work. Admin, standard queries, repetitive processes, faster than any person could.

What it won't do is care more. It won't spot the opportunity behind a set of numbers, or notice a conversation heading somewhere it shouldn't.

That's still down to people. Worth remembering as you plan where technology fits in your business.

Bill Shankly said half the world is short on natural enthusiasm. Kevin Keegan wasn't.

Qualifications get people through the door. Experience helps them do the job. Neither explains why two equally capable people get different results.

The difference is usually attitude. One person waits for instructions. The other looks for solutions.

Worth asking today: when someone walks into a room in your business, do they bring energy, or drain it?

If your turnover is up but you're not feeling any better off, you're not imagining it, and you're not alone.
Our latest article walks through a simple way to check: take your turnover from a few years ago, adjust it for inflation, and compare it to what you're turning over now. Then look at what's actually left for you as the owner, then and now.

It only takes three numbers, and it might tell you something your invoices never will.

Ever wonder why your turnover keeps growing but the money in the bank never quite seems to catch up?

A few reasons costs have crept up faster than most businesses priced for:

• Employer National Insurance is now 15%, and kicks in at a much lower threshold than in 2022
• The National Living Wage has risen sharply, with knock-on effects through the whole pay structure
• Borrowing costs are well above the near-zero rates many businesses built their plans around before 2022
• Corporation tax on profits above £250,000 is now 25%, up from 19%

None of these show up as a single hit. It's a gradual squeeze from several directions at once, which is exactly why it often goes unnoticed until someone steps back and looks at the bigger picture.

Here's a question worth sitting with: would you rather grow your turnover by 25%, or keep an extra £250,000 in the business?

Most business owners say growth, without hesitating.

But since 2022, rising costs, wages and tax have quietly eaten into margins everywhere. For a lot of businesses, "growth" hasn't actually meant more money left over at the end of the year.

We've broken down why turnover can be a misleading number, and the three figures that tell you what's really going on.
