The temporary 5% VAT rate for hospitality and leisure ends on 1 September, and it's the kind of change that's easy to miss until it shows up as an error on a VAT return.

From that date, admissions, food and drink that have been at 5% since late June revert to the standard rate. Till systems, booking platforms and any pre-printed pricing all need switching back, and it's worth checking now rather than the morning of the 1st.

One thing we're seeing catch people out: advance bookings taken during the reduced-rate period but delivered after 1 September. HMRC's rules on which rate applies depend on when the service is actually provided, not when it was booked or paid for, so it's worth checking anything sold in the last few weeks of August.

We're helping hospitality and leisure clients across Shropshire and Cheshire get their systems switched over cleanly. If you want a second pair of eyes on your pricing before the change, get in touch.

On Saturday, Minsterley Show brought the 2026 rural show season in Shropshire to a close, marking the final rural show of the year in the county🚜

🌾 Summer show season is in full swing, and yesterday some of our Rural team had the pleasure of attending the Burwarton Show.

We're incredibly proud to have sponsored the show for over 70 years, supporting an event that has been at the heart of the rural community for generations. The story of Burwarton Show stretches back more than 130 years to 1891, when the Burwarton & District Farmers Club held the very first show in a field just north of the village.
