It's usually timing, not profit.

Invoices sitting unpaid, VAT and tax set aside too late, stock bought before the money arrives - the accounts can look healthy while the bank balance doesn't.

A simple twelve-week forecast solves most of it, and we can build one with you.

Before you appoint an accountant:

• Who will I actually speak to?
• What's included, and what costs extra?
• How quickly do you reply to questions?
• Which software will I be working in?

Ask us all four - we like these questions. If you're weighing up a change, a short conversation usually makes the decision easy.

1. Reclaiming VAT on client entertaining
2. Claiming without a valid VAT invoice
3. Filing before the bookkeeping is finished

None are difficult to avoid, and all three are far easier to sort out before you file than after. If you're unsure about a claim, ask us before submitting.

Filing your tax return early does not bring your payment date forward. The deadline for paying is still 31 January, whatever date you submit.

What early filing does give you is time: time to check the figures, time to set money aside, and time to ask questions before the deadline rush.

If you'd like your return prepared well ahead of January, we're happy to help.

HMRC letters aren’t usually the problem. Ignoring them is. 👀

Whether you’re a sole trader or limited company, a few simple habits can save you from unnecessary stress, penalties and last-minute panic.

✔️ Open HMRC correspondence promptly
✔️ Keep your records organised
✔️ Know your key deadlines
✔️ Claim the expenses you’re entitled to
✔️ Separate business and personal finances

The businesses that stay compliant aren’t necessarily the biggest, they’re usually just the most organised.

Need help getting your finances in order? Send us a message and let’s make tax season a little less stressful. 💜

Your business finances don’t need to be complicated, they just need consistent attention.

Small habits like keeping records organised, checking your numbers regularly and planning ahead can make the difference between feeling in control and constantly playing catch-up.

Running a social media business comes with more expenses than most people realise 👀

Whether you’re investing in content creation equipment, paying for software subscriptions, outsourcing work to freelancers, travelling to client shoots, or keeping on top of your bookkeeping, those costs can quickly add up.

Understanding which expenses may be allowable can help you stay organised, keep accurate records, and avoid paying more tax than necessary.

Are you tracking all of your business expenses properly? 💭👇🏻

Most business owners think bookkeeping is about staying compliant.

In reality, it’s about knowing:
✨ What you can afford to spend
✨ What’s actually making you money
✨ Where cash is leaking out of your business
✨ How profitable you really are

Because “I’ll sort it later” usually turns into a stressful tax bill, missing receipts, and financial guesswork. Regular bookkeeping gives you visibility, confidence, and better decisions all year round.

Save this as a reminder that knowing your numbers isn’t a luxury, it’s part of running a successful business.

Making Tax Digital is one of those things everyone’s suddenly talking about… but most business owners still don’t actually know what it means for them 👀

If you’re a sole trader, landlord or limited company owner, these changes are worth understanding now rather than panicking later. The good news? This doesn’t mean paying tax every quarter, it’s mainly about digital record keeping, quarterly updates & staying organised ahead of future HMRC changes.

Money looks different at every stage… and so does the strategy behind it 💭💸 whether you’re in your “finally covering the bills” era or building long-term wealth for your future family & lifestyle, every stage matters.

The biggest shift? Moving from reacting to your finances… to making intentional decisions with them ✨

At Summit Financials we help business owners build clarity, confidence & long-term financial security, not just survive month to month. 📈💜
