Being named as an executor is an important responsibility, and many people are unsure what the role actually involves until the time comes.

An executor is responsible for administering a person's estate after they pass away.
This can include locating the Will, valuing the estate, applying for Probate where required, settling any outstanding debts or taxes, and ensuring the remaining assets are distributed in accordance with the deceased's wishes.

While some estates are relatively straightforward, others can be more complex, making the process feel overwhelming without the right support.

If you've been appointed as an executor, you don't have to navigate the process alone.

Professional guidance can help ensure everything is managed correctly, giving you confidence during what is often a difficult time.

Writing a Will is an important step, but it's just as important to make sure it reflects your current wishes.

As life changes, your Will should too.

Major milestones such as getting married, welcoming children or grandchildren, buying or selling property, or experiencing changes in your financial circumstances are all good reasons to review your existing plans.

Even if nothing significant has changed, it's worth revisiting your will every few years to ensure it still reflects your wishes and takes account of any changes in legislation or your personal circumstances.

Keeping your Will up to date can provide clarity for your loved ones and help ensure your estate is distributed as you intend.

World Mental Health Day! ❤️

Planning for the future isn't always an easy conversation, but it can make a difficult time a little easier for the people you care about most.

Having an up-to-date will, a Lasting Power of Attorney and clear plans for your estate can help remove uncertainty and reduce the practical pressures your loved ones may face if the unexpected happens.

While no amount of planning can remove the emotional impact of difficult circumstances, knowing that important decisions have already been made can provide reassurance and help families focus on supporting one another rather than navigating unnecessary complications.

This World Mental Health Day, consider taking a small step that could make a big difference to your family's future.

It's International Day of Older Persons ❤️

Today is an opportunity to recognise the importance of supporting older family members, not just in the present, but by helping them plan for the future.

One of the most valuable steps someone can take is putting a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) in place.
An LPA allows someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you're ever unable to do so yourself.

Without one, your loved ones may not have the legal authority to manage your finances or make decisions about your health and welfare, even if they want to help.
This can lead to additional stress, delays and potentially costly legal processes at an already difficult time.

Having these conversations early can provide reassurance for everyone involved and help ensure your wishes are respected.

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that allows you to appoint someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you're ever unable to do so yourself.

There are two types of LPA.

One covers Property and Financial Affairs, allowing your chosen attorney to help manage things like paying bills, handling bank accounts or making decisions about property.

The other covers Health and Welfare, giving them the authority to make decisions about your care, medical treatment and daily wellbeing if you lose the capacity to make those decisions yourself.

Putting an LPA in place isn't about expecting the worst, it's about planning ahead and ensuring your wishes are respected, while making life easier for those closest to you if the unexpected happens.

If you're considering putting a Lasting Power of Attorney in place, our team can guide you through the process.
