📢 HMRC MTD: Are you ready for the next stage?
More than 570,000 taxpayers have now signed up for Making Tax Digital (MTD), with 436,000 successfully submitting their first quarterly update.
HMRC estimates that around 864,000 taxpayers should be registered, meaning there are still many who need to take action.
The good news is that if you were required to submit your first quarterly update but haven’t done so yet, you can still submit it now without receiving a penalty for late submission during this first year.
However, HMRC is taking further action. From September, HMRC plans to start signing up the remaining taxpayers in stages.
If HMRC signs you up, you’ll receive a letter or digital message explaining what this means and what you need to do next. You’ll also be asked to check your Personal Tax Account and confirm that HMRC’s records are up to date.
This is important if your circumstances have changed... for example, if you’re no longer running a business or believe you may be eligible for an exemption.
👉 Don’t wait for HMRC to contact you. If you think you may be affected by MTD, or you’re unsure whether you’re required to sign up, speak to the WBV team today. We can help you understand your obligations and make sure you’re prepared.
