‼️ 3 weeks today and all self assessments will need to be submitted and paid to avoid any penalties for the 23-24 year ‼️

📆23-24 year is the 06 April 2023-05 April 2024.

⏰ If you haven't already done so ensure you start your tax return ASAP to allow for any issues you may occur along the way.

💰The penalties for late filing and payment is £100. If over 3 months late, you will then start to be charged £10 per day for 90 days on top of this. Even if you are due to pay no tax, you must submit your return if you are registered for self assessment.

With just over 3 weeks until Christmas 😱🎄 don't forget about your self-assessment deadline looming!

Make sure to get all information to your accountant shortly (if not already done so 😆) to avoid any late filing penalties or unnecessary stress ❌

Please drop us a message if you are needing any assistance 📥

After a very busy week getting all VAT returns in order it was great to receive my certificate from IAgSA to show I had successfully completed the farm livestock and record keeping course!

Keeping CPD up is extremely important and IAgSA have a great range of accredited courses to help with this. They are available to all so I would highly recommend to anyone who would like to learn more about all things farming in the office😊

For many businesses the 23/24 accounting year end is just around the corner. Now is the time to get organised and get your books ready for your accountant. Here are some of my top tips:

🐑Reconcile control accounts such as the bank and payroll.

🐑Review your account transactions for consistency of postings. Adjust as necessary.

🐑Complete a stock take. Do not forget your crops in ground or deadstock (Feed, fuel, bedding, fert etc) and if you make use of external grain storage then ensure this stock is not double counted or omitted.

🐑Collate year end bank & loan statements to confirm closing balances.

🐑If any new HPs/Leases or similar have been taken out in the year, ensure the agreements are included.

🐑Review your debtors and adjust for any bad debts as necessary.

🐑Review your creditors and adjust for duplicates or items paid privately.

🐑Include any expenses that have been paid privately.

🐑Ensure the dates covered for any rent (or similar) are included in the description of the payments and receipts.

‼️For those not confident using their accounting software I would recommend that you do not adjust the software yourself. Simply list the changes that need to be made and the accountant will complete the amendments for you.‼️

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has delivered the spring Budget 2024. Below are some highlights which may mean something to you or your business:

🐄 National Insurance

From April National insurance contributions cut a further 2% for both employed & self-employed workers.

This means a saving for an average employed worker of £450 a year and £350 for self-employed.

🐄Property taxation

As of 06 April 2024 the higher rate of residential property capital gains tax will be reduced to 24% from 28%.

Furnished holiday lettings(FHL) regime & multiple dwelling relief abolished.

🐄VAT Registration Threshold

This will be increased from £85,000 to £90,000 from the start of April 2024. This can help cut taxes for small businesses across the UK & allow for more opportunity to grow your business without tipping over the threshold.

It has been a busy few weeks meeting new clients, completing training, and carrying out lengthy CPD pathways!

Xero advisory certification ✅ A xero advisor has valuable skills and has been properly educated on the platform to perform xero services efficiently and effectively. I appreciate that sometimes the admin side is a smaller priority to a farmer or business owner so please do get in touch if you think I can be of assistance and take this headache away📞

Institute of Agricultural Secretaries and l Administrators (IAgSA)- membership accepted at associate level ✅ IAgSA is a professional organisation which is well respected through the farming and rural business industry. They provide professional support, career development and promote a high standard of professional conduct to members. IAgSA hold a variety of training for member's covering areas such as the legal, regulatory and compliance requirements of farm accounts, farm record keeping for livestock enterprises and farm record keeping for cropping enterprises. I look forward to attending a couple of these in the new year.

AAT CPD pathway ✅ I have completed all compulsory modules needed for my MAAT status. I have covered areas such as ethics, adding value to businesses, data protection, planning priorities and delivering accurate information.

I still have some space to take on new clients so please send me a message if there is anything I can help you with. 📚
