Tax free mileage rate increases 📈 🚗

♦️There will be a 10p per mile increase in tax-free mileage rates from 45p to 55p for the first 10,000 miles driven in the tax year

♦️After 10,000 miles the rate drops to 25p per mile per tax year

♦️This can be claimed by self-employed and employees who have to use their cars and vans for work (not commuting) and will be backdated from 6 April 2026.

Changes to Statutory Paternity Leave from 6 April 2026

♦️Paternity leave will be a “day one right” - an employee can give notice of leave from first day of employment.

Notice period temporarily reduced to 28 days
(previously 15 weeks)

Changes to Statutory Sick Pay from 6 April 2026

♦️Removal of lower earnings limit

All eligible employees will be entitled to SSP, regardless of their income level

SSP paid at 80% of normal weekly earnings, or £123.25 (whichever is lower)

♦️Removal of SSP 3-day waiting period

SSP will now be paid from day one of sickness absence, rather than day four. This applies to sickness absence starting from 6 April 2026 (Sickness absence starting before 6 April 2026 will follow the rules for 2025/26).

♦️Holiday Pay

If full holiday allowance has not been taken due to long term illness, up to 4 weeks unused allowance can be carried over.

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW) increases on 1 April 2026

The table shows a breakdown of the new rates.

♦️21 years and over (NLW) will be £12.71

♦️18 - 20 years will be £10.85

♦️Under 18s will be £8.00

♦️Apprentice* will be £8.00

* Apprentices are entitled to the apprentice rate if they are either: aged 19 and under OR aged 19 or over and in their 1st year of apprenticeship

It is illegal for any employer to pay below the minimum wage.

🔺Making Tax Digital (MTD)
Sole Traders and Landlords who have a turnover over £50k must use digital software and submit income and expenditure quarterly to HMRC. We will contact all our clients who this applies to, and provide you with the next steps to be MTD ready.

🔺Increases to the National Living Wage and National Minimum Wage

🔺Dividend Income Tax Rates will increase by 2%
