Two weeks ago I did something that genuinely pushed me outside my comfort zone: I stood on a TEDx stage and shared a part of my story🎤

Being vulnerable has never come naturally to me, but I’m so glad I did. Preparing this talk forced me to understand my own brain a little better, and to put into words something I’ve spent years trying to make sense of.

I’ve always been drawn to analytical, process-driven work, while also needing musical and creative outlets to feel like myself. For a long time, those two sides of me felt like they were in conflict. Now I see they’re actually what make me who I am.

That combination has shaped not just my career, but how I approach financial planning: bringing structure and clarity to complex situations, while still making space for people’s goals, values, and the real lives behind the numbers.

Stepping onto a TEDx stage was exhilarating and terrifying in equal measure. I even start the talk with a bit of singing… and the AI subtitles have absolutely no idea what to do with it. The result is unintentionally hilarious 😂

If you’re someone who works in a structured, analytical environment but also craves creativity, or if you’ve ever struggled to reconcile different parts of yourself, I hope something in this talk resonates with you.

A provider asked where I was based today and what the temperature was. I said Cornwall, and he replied:

"I'm in South Wales and it's 32°C… we're pale Celtic people... we aren't made for this!" 😂

It genuinely made me laugh. I think a lot of us are feeling the same this week!
